Our experienced staff of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Mental Health Specialists, Parent Partners and other therapists/counselors provide case management, mental health care and a range of support services in our outpatient clinics and 24/7 treatment facilities, and in community settings such as schools and homes. Our dedicated teams work collaboratively and in partnership with family members, school administrators and faculty, county social workers, case managers, probation officers and other community-based agencies.

JOB SUMMARY:  The Registered Nurse is the treatment team member who is responsible for overseeing all nursing duties and related nursing activities for clients.  The Registered Nurse is also responsible for the supervision of the nursing department staff assigned to their respective shift.  This position may be responsible for managing the overall milieu in the facility and general operations to facilitate quality client care, optimum facility operations and preserve the safety of those therein which may include the shift oversight of staff designated to other departments (i.e. Safety Specialists, QA staff, Clerks, Clinical staff, etc.) as well as the nursing department. This position is responsible for accurately documenting client care in the Electronic Medical Records; collaborating with internal and external departments and agencies to facilitate optimal client care and facility operations. Licensed staff (that meet qualifications) may be asked to become LPS designee certified to facilitate the completion of “applications 5150/5585” for clients in need of such.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing.

Bachelor’s degree, preferred.

 

Experience

One (1) year experience with seriously emotionally disturbed children, adolescents, and adults in a mental health care setting, preferred.

One (1) year supervisory experience preferred.

 

License or Certification

Valid California RN license.

Ability to pass facility Medication Test.

Current CPR certification.

First Aid certification.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manages the overall milieu in the facility and general day to day operations to facilitate quality client care, optimum facility operations and preserve the safety of all therein.

  2. Work with physicians and social workers to secure informed consent for medication from parents, courts, or conservators.

  3. Take physician orders for medications, seclusions and restraint, denial of rights, medical procedures, lab work, x-rays, and ensure each order is implemented.

  4. Visually and audibly observe client’s physical and psychiatric conditions and report changes to the Psychiatrist or other Medical Doctor.

  5. Perform documentation that records daily client outcomes.

  6. Administer medication as prescribed.

  7. Order and ensure on-going supply of individual medications for each client.

  8. Take vital signs as ordered.

  9. Initiate seclusion and restraint in an emergency until MD order can be obtained within one (1) hour of intervention.

  10. Monitor all seclusion and restraint activity including 15-minute checks for vital signs, range of motion, release criteria, toileting, etc.

  11. Audit Medical Records to ensure all orders have been implemented.

  12. Provide medication education and information on health practices to clients.

  13. Complete Nursing Assessments on new clients or when clients require such assessments.

  14. Compile Transfer or Aftercare Instructions for clients being discharged from facility.

  15. Supervise assigned Nursing Department staff.

  16. Manages the overall milieu in the facility and general operations which includes the general oversight of non-nursing staff on their shift as assigned.

  17. Uses ProACT to appropriately intervene with assaultive/volatile clients.

  18. Assists in crisis intervention (including the use of ProACT) and provide support and assistance in problem resolution.

  19. Make daily shift assignments for assigned Nursing Department staff.

  20. Actively Participate in shift change meetings and accurately give shift report for the optimal treatment and over all safety of those in the facility.

     

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide other nursing duties including first aid and medical intervention within scope of licensure as necessary for each client, in addition to staff who experience minor injuries on the job.

  2. Attend and participate in shift rounds, change of shift meetings, and treatment team meetings.

  3. Help coordinate admissions and discharges of clients.

  4. Reads and responds to company communications via email, telephone or other selected mode within a reasonable timeframe. Logs in to established company information sharing sites regularly to maintain current knowledge of changes in policy, procedure, events, etc. 

  5. Regularly attends department meetings and mandatory work meetings, events, etc. as assigned by Management/Administration.

  6. Participate in ProACT Team assignments and activities.

  7. Monitors and contributes to the cleanliness of the facility.

  8. Actively participates in the agency’s and SBHG’s Total Quality Management and Continuous Quality Improvement systems which support compliance with Joint Commission and other accreditation standards as applicable.

  9. Participates in TQM activities as requested including CQI subcommittees, probes, peer review, audit and/or tracer activities
