Our experienced staff of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Mental Health Specialists, Parent Partners and other therapists/counselors provide case management, mental health care and a range of support services in our outpatient clinics and 24/7 treatment facilities, and in community settings such as schools and homes. Our dedicated teams work collaboratively and in partnership with family members, school administrators and faculty, county social workers, case managers, probation officers and other community-based agencies.

JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Counselor is the treatment team member who is responsible for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the adolescents. This care is provided through direct and indirect physical and verbal interactions with clients, modeling appropriate behaviors for clients, and monitoring daily client activities. Hiring for all shifts AM, PM, NOC, and On-Call.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 

Education/Experience

Level 36: High School diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in a behavioral health field; OR AA and two (2) years of experience in a behavioral health field.

Level 37: AA and four (4) years of experience in a behavioral health field; OR Bachelor’s degree in a social services field and two (2) years of experience in a behavioral health field.


License or Certification

Valid California Driver's License preferred
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to physically perform Pro-ACT.
  2. Ability to visually and audibly assess clients’ behavior and needs.
  3. Ability to stand and walk for long periods, up to 3 hours at a time.

 

POTENTIAL JOB HAZARDS:

  1. Potential for eye and wrist strain from computer screen and minor lacerations from paper cuts.
  2. Interaction with potentially assaultive youth.
  3. Blood and Body Fluid Contact (Category I).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Supervise, protect, and care for clients individually and in groups.
  2. Welcome all guests and screen all non-staff who enter the facility.
  3. Collect and inventory all newly arriving client property.
  4. Control disturbances and assist staff in de-escalating volatile situations.
  5. Provide exceptional customer service to all staff, clients, guests and visitors. This post is expected to remain diligent to monitor all of the events within the area including all video surveillance cameras.
  6. Provide for general safety and security of the staff in the facility. Staff shall make a complete security check of the facility at least once every two hours.
  7. Enforce safety and company policies relating to health, safety, and security.
  8. Participate in ProACT Team assignments and activities.
  9. Assist in crisis intervention and provides support and assistance in problem resolution.
  10. Use ProACT to appropriately intervene with assaultive/volatile clients.
