SCHEDULE:  Monday - Friday

Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant helps businesses make critical financial decisions and ensures compliance with local, state, federal and Canadian tax authorities. They are responsible for assisting with month end close, financial and tax audits, and ensuring financial records are accurate throughout the year. Staff Accountant will cross train in various cash cycle areas to facilitate strong finance department performance

 

  • Performs monthly and annual account reconciliations to ensure financial integrity of financial records.
  • Completes and files state sales and use tax returns and Canadian GST returns.
  • Compiles information needed for various compliance reporting (Ohio CAT, Indiana personal property and IEDC, state bedding licenses, Federal and State income tax returns, unclaimed property returns).
  • Creates weekly vendor payment files.
  • Assists with treasury functions (positive pay exceptions, foreign wires and ACH payments, check voids).
  • Manages the company’s purchase card program.
  • Creates and posts journal entries required to ensure accurate financial reporting.  Ensures proper documentation exists and is accessible for manual entries.
  • Attains proficiency in vouchering invoices and navigating state sales tax websites and various portals (Bank, 3rd party payment processor).

 

Experience and Knowledge Required
  • Associates degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred, with accounting, business or economics focus; alternatively 3 years of accounts receivable, accounts payable and general accounting experience required.
  • Proficient with Excel, attentive to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Motivated, goal-oriented self-starter who desires to grow their knowledge and skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Contribute to friendly, high-performing team atmosphere.

Encompasses the full spectrum from factory floor, to personal offices, to executive board rooms.  The noise levels in these work environments are usually low to moderate.
