As the Heavy Engine Technician, you are responsible for replacing and maintaining engines and transmissions on trucks and other vehicles. 

 

Heavy Engine Technician Responsibilities include:

 

  • Remove, replace, and install engines and transmissions in trucks and cars.
  • Disassemble and reassemble engine components for repair or replacement.
  • Reprogram software after component replacement.
  • Update software systems in the vehicles.
  • Maintain accurate records of the repairs on the vehicles.
  • Conduct performance tests and inspections to ensure compliance with safety and emissions regulations.
  • Adhere to Suburban Automotive Service’s DRIVEN values and align business practices to support the SAS mission and vision.

Heavy Engine Qualifications and Skills:

 

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Basic hand tools and power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, picks, pliers, hammers, impacts, ratchets, and grinders are required.
  • Trade or technical school (preferred).  
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record (required).
  • Previous automotive experience (required).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Must have superior attendance, and be prompt and reliable.

Heavy Engine Conditions and Physical Demands include:

  • 90% of the time you will be standing while working on vehicles and 10% of the time you will be sitting while working on vehicles. 
  • This position is performed both inside a garage and outside so weather conditions may include extreme heat and cold. 
  • This position is continually active and requires standing, walking, bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. 
  • Must frequently lift and/or move items up to 100 lbs. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
