050 - Human Resources - Director - HR

Position Purpose:

The Human Resources Director is responsible for the execution of various Human Resources programs and policies including compliance, staffing, employee relations, compensation and benefits and safety.

 Summary of Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Director will supervise and participate in the development of systems, processes and initiatives of the Human Resources Department, including employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, recruiting and staffing, employee development and training, implementation and administration of the Sandridge HR programs and employment policies, personnel record keeping, workers compensation, safety, and compliance with HR laws and regulations.  Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Human Resources Director will be a player coach, supervising the activities in the department, but also being active in providing services to Sandridge employees and being a business partner and resource for the Sandridge management team. 

 Key Specific Responsibilities:

Compliance:

  • Develop and maintain an affirmative action program.  File EEO1 Report annually and maintain other employment records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Federal, State and Local regulations concerning all employment related activities.
  • Manage actions and proceedings brought against Sandridge arising in connection with employment, benefits and workers compensation issues.
  • Maintain all personnel files, I-9 records, drug and alcohol screening and background investigation results, and other personnel records, and ensure Sandridge is in compliance with all laws and regulations and demonstrates “best practices” in regard to personnel information management.
  • Oversee handling of employment-related inquiries, such as employment verification requests and unemployment compensation inquiries and proceedings.

 

Recruiting and Staffing:

  • Conducts and coordinates recruitment efforts for exempt and nonexempt employees.
  • Manages the new hire process including: recruiting, screening candidates, interviewing, pre-hire testing, preparation of offer letters and ensuring that all personnel records are retained as required by law.
  • Conducts and coordinates new hire orientation programs, offering and implementing suggestions for improvements.
  • Prepare and coordinate all on-line recruiting efforts, job fairs, and any external recruiting resources used for open positions.
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions to comply with applicable laws.
  • Oversee handling of employment-related inquiries, such as employment verification requests and unemployment compensation inquiries and proceedings.
  • Manages the implementation and maintenance of the Human Resources Information System and intranet sites.

Employee Relations:

  • Provide leadership in effective conflict resolution for all personnel, participate in employee counseling and exit interviews.
  • Serve as a company representative for all union grievances.  Communicate and maintain effective working relationship with union representatives.
  • Manage employee relations in coordination with management, Vice President of HR, and department managers/leaders, including ensuring that employee discipline is fair and consistent.
  • Participate in all contract negotiations with the union.

Department/Compensation and Benefits:

  • Develop and implement human resources programs and policies and periodically update Sandridge’s Team Member and Team Leader Handbooks.
  • Participate in developing departmental goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Manage and execute all employee relations’ initiatives including Company picnic, holiday events, United Way drive, wellness programs, etc.
  • Analyze benefits options and cost alternatives for providing employee benefits, recommend benefits program modifications and implement approved benefits modifications.
  • Work with senior management to construct consistent, equitable and competitive compensation and incentives.
  • Develop, implement and participate in employee recognition programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Vice President of Human Resources, or other members of senior management.

 Business Resource:

  • Serve as a resource for team leaders in handling employee issues and assist them in counseling employees, conducting evaluations, preparing performance improvement plans, staff training, problem solving and consensus-building.
  • Serve as a resource for all team members by being available and accessible to discuss all human resources related issues.
  • Participate in the Organizational Development & Training function and develop employee-training programs.
  • Maintain inter and intra departmental work flow by providing meaningful and timely information to co-workers.
  • Collect and maintain benchmarking data, KPI’s and inform management of potential issues that may affect the goals and strategic plans of the business.

Safety and Training:

  • Enhance job performance by applying up-to-date professional and technical knowledge gained by attending seminars and conferences and reviewing professional publications approved in the annual budgeting process.
  • Manages the Employee Health and Safety Program, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Manages the Workers Compensation Program, ensuring compliance and accurate record keeping practices.
  • Develops, implements, and manages a variety of training program for all Sandridge employees.
  • Responsible for food safety while carrying out daily job duties.
  • Leads the implementation of the performance management system that includes performance development plans (PDPs) and employee development programs.

Summary of Authority Granted To This Position:

  • The Human Resource Director has authority to commit resources (money, people, equipment and facilities) to accomplish the goals and objectives for budgeted expenditures and with approval for non-budgeted resources.

Essential Competencies:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, files and reports, including responsibility for maintaining personnel records.

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to all levels of staff and management, outside officials and agencies, and the public, expressing ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Accurately follow verbal and written directions from senior management.
  • Advise on employment statutes, rules, regulations and policies affecting team members.
  • Meet with and assist Sandridge team leaders in planning and directing activities, explaining and implementing decisions, and resolving significant issues involving team members.
  • Conduct research regarding employment issues, benefits, workers compensation and personnel procedures and, working with the Vice President of Human Resources, apply the conclusions to Sandridge’s personnel policies and practices.
  • Participate in hiring, including developing job descriptions and job advertisements, and screening and interviewing candidates.

 

  • Demonstrate skills in consensus building and mediation in order to constructively address employee conflicts. Demonstrate skills critical for managerial success including leadership, decisiveness, flexibility, sound business judgment, and highly developed personal, analytical and communication skills.

 Qualifications for Position:

 Experience, Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business Administration or related discipline required.
  • At least five years of professional experience across all HR disciplines, including employment, benefits, compensation, employee relations, training and development, workers compensation and conflict resolution.  
  • Experience in union and non-union manufacturing facilities.
  • PHR certification required; SPHR certification preferred.
  • Experience working with a diverse workforce.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate common sense, professional judgment and respect when addressing the full scope of Human Resources questions and situations.
  • Ability and willingness to engage and provide support to employees on all three shifts during their working hours as needed.
  • Computer skills and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, Prezi, Alchemy and ADP systems

 Measurements of Performance:

Performance will be measured formally on an annual basis against strategic personal and company goals, KPI’s and job description. We encourage all employees to seek out feedback on their performance regularly.

  • Ability to walk around facility, as well as climb stairs as needed.
  • Ability to work in cold climates as needed
  • Ability to read/write the English language.
  • While performing duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, walk
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
