Job Summary: The Kansas City Urban Youth Academy is a nonprofit organization with the mission to empower Kansas City’s urban youth to unlock their potential and become the leaders of tomorrow through baseball and softball.
This position is housed at the Urban Youth Academy (UYA) and is responsible for supporting the Academy’s community pillar by leading all community partnerships and events. This position is responsible for leading all community partnerships and events. The Community Partnerships and Events Coordinator builds and maintains relationships with community organizations and partners, executing events that align with the Academy's mission. This role serves as the primary contact for partnership requests, acts as a liaison to develop and grow relationships, and ensures the successful execution of community programs and events. Additionally, the Coordinator manages and updates social media platforms, captures and edits photos for promotional use, maintains records of all community plans and events, and runs the summer camp program. This position reports to the Manager of Community Engagement and Programs.
Position Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Community Partnerships:
- Serve as the primary contact for all community partnership requests.
- Act as a liaison between the organization and community partners to foster new relationships and enhance existing ones.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders by ensuring thorough follow-up and adherence to deadlines.
- Develop and nurture relationships with local non-profits, schools, and other community organizations.
- Create a community program that can be expanded to accommodate and support continuous growth.
- Collaborate with the Manager-Community Engagement and Programs to ensure the growth of educational programs.
- Design a comprehensive scope and sequence plan for all community partnerships.
Event Coordinator:
- Plan, organize, and execute various events, including youth-focused, fundraising, educational camps, corporate, and community events.
- Oversee event logistics, including vendor coordination, venue setup, and volunteer recruitment.
- Manage event sheets, contracts, certificates of insurance (COI), vendor lists, and floor plans.
- Serve as the coordinator for the summer camp program, ensuring its smooth operation.
- Train and prepare UYA staff to manage and oversee the summer camp program for kids.
Administrative Duties:
- Create and maintain a comprehensive calendar of events and community activities.
- Track and report metrics on participation, attendance, and event success.
- Capture and edit photos of events and activities for promotional materials and social media.
- Post updates on social media and track engagement metrics.
- Design TV graphics and signage for events.
- Develop a building calendar that includes all events, programming, and open gym schedules.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all community plans, processes, and events
Position Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in communications, public relations, marketing, business, sports administration, or a related field.
- Event planning or coordination, especially in a camp or educational setting.
- Working with children and youth, including group management and safety.
- Developing and implementing age-specific programs or activities.
- Supervising staff or volunteers.
- Excellent networking and business acumen.
- Strong written and oral communication.
- Effective interpersonal skills for communication with departments, personnel, clients, etc.
- Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and events.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Social media management and content creation.
- Basic photography and photo editing.
- Problem-solving skills for addressing issues during camp activities.
- Logistics management, including scheduling, and equipment needs.
- Basic budgeting and financial management for planning and executing camp activities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift items weighing as much as 25 pounds
- Must be able to work in a seated position for majority of workday
- Must be able to be productive utilizing a computer keyboard and telephone
- Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
- Must be comfortable walking to navigate the facility to access the office, concourse, etc.
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling

This role is a Full-Time, Exempt opportunity that is eligible for Company Benefits, 401K, and PTO. This role is expected to have a 40-hour work week.
