As part of the development team, you will play a key role in conceiving, designing, developing, and delivering products for a variety of broadcast applications. Your contributions will help improve and expand the technical competence of our designs. Our small teams foster innovative thinking and value both creativity and constructive feedback. You will collaborate with a diverse group of people, each bringing a broad range of skills and experiences. You'll be working on real-world applications and will see the direct impact of your hard work.

The Caprica Team is responsible for the development and maintenance of control systems for various devices, including but not limited to Production Switchers, Cameras, Audio Mixers, and the in-house CX Panel. Other Ross products, such as OverDrive and Quorum, rely on Caprica for their device control capabilities.

Caprica is an embedded platform built in C/C++, with the current UI utilizing DashBoard, another Ross product.

The team is mostly based in Ottawa, ON, and works primarily remotely, with the expectation that all Ottawa based team members come into the office once a week.

What the job is all about:

  • Participate in the planning, development, testing, and delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Develop new features using C/C++.
  • Participate in test automation and implement Unit tests as needed.
  • Engage in code reviews to ensure quality and best practices.
  • Work on integrating hardware and software to create cohesive solutions.
  • Learn how operators use our products to make informed product decisions.
  • Collaborate with the team in an Agile environment to develop high-quality solutions.
  • Work with other teams to leverage our diverse platforms and experiences to create unique solutions.

Who you are:

  • Hold a graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have one to five years of software development experience in a Unix environment using VS Code.
  • Have experience with C/C++.
  • Be familiar with Git.
  • Possess a solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and practices.
  • Be eager to implement development processes and adopt best practices, particularly in improving quality and performance.
  • Be prepared to tackle challenging tasks and explore and integrate various tools and technologies into applications.
  • Have strong debugging skills.

Bonus points if you have the following:

  • Experience working in an Agile Scrum software development team.
  • Experience with React and JavaScript is an asset.
  • Experience in embedded software development.
  • Experience with collaborative development methods such as Pair Programming and/or Mobbing.
  • Knowledge of TDD, BDD, AWS (or other cloud platforms), and production switchers is an asset.
