Maximizing the value of our products, resulting from the work of the team. The Product Owner is the main point of contact for the development team.

 

You’ll be managing the product backlog for a specific release, creating and reviewing product backlog items and working day-to-day with the team. You will collaborate with product management on the best way to achieve the product vision and goals. You’ll assist the product manager in validating potential solutions.

What the job is all about:

Responsible for execution of and/or participation in activities related to the product line, including but not limited to:

 

  • Collaboration
    • Work with Product Management to ensure a deep understanding of the release goals/themes and product vision.
    • Work together to define and monitor KPIs that indicate how the product investment is delivering value.
    • Develop domain knowledge and expertise
    • Work day-to-day with the team to support the delivery of the product. Responsibilities include: release planning, managing the product backlog, creating and reviewing user stories and acceptance criteria with the team, creating epics and story maps, capturing feature requests and enhancements
    • Work with the Product Manager to fully understand the problem space and revise existing features to better align with customer needs
    • Provide feedback and suggestions to the Product Manager on their product roadmap, future release plans and product direction
    • Identify and initiate cross-team planning activities; track cross-team dependencies/commitments
    • Work with subject matter experts to ensure a quality product, including: Architects, Product Verification Specialists, Test Automation Experts, Technical Writers and Technical Support
  • Innovation, Design and Specification
    • Promote use of experimentation to deliver innovative approaches to solving existing and emerging problems.
    • Gather UATs
    • Continuously participate in customer feedback sessions and research, both before and after feature implementation
    • Create user experience artifacts to aid the team in keeping the user top of mind: scenarios, user stories, personas, use cases etc.
    • Work closely with User Experience Design team to create mockups and interaction designs for new features that are in line with Ross standards
  • Stakeholder Management and Communication
    • Maintains the priority of the items in the release backlog, including user stories, bugs, tech support escalations to maximize the value of the product, while staying aligned with the Product Manager on the vision and strategy
    • Regularly reporting on progress towards release goals to product stakeholders
    • Explain and regularly communicate the rationale behind the priority of items in the product backlog to all release stakeholders
    • Ensure customer stakeholders, both internal and external, are informed when priorities change or risks emerge and the impact on the scope of the release
    • Gathers feedback from demos and reviews in collaboration with the product manager to determine outcomes.
    • Leads collaboration with other product leaders to complete and forward the product release checklist and product security check list
    • Ensures release build and product documentation has been directed through proper channels and is available to Services
    • Provide product line monthly report in RD sync meeting

Who you are:

  • Post-secondary degree or trade school diploma
  • Experience with 5+ product releases as product owner or 10+ product releases working as an Agile delivery team member is preferred
  • Understanding of Agile principles, practices and ceremonies
  • Experience with backlog prioritization, user story development
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to work well with remote team members
  • Organized and very detail orientated
  • Proficient with Jira

 

Bonus points if you have the following:

  • Broadcast production experience is preferred
  • Software development experience is an asset
  • Experience working as a product owner in a technology company delivering solutions to the technology market
  • Self-starter and quick learner with the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Able to work co-operatively with and across all company departments
