This role is crucial for ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time, while also leveraging technology to streamline payroll processes and provide insightful reporting.  In this role you will be responsible for inhouse payroll processing using Dayforce (Ceridian) software for Canada, US, Australia, and UK.  In addition, you will manage relationships with outside vendors for processing of small payrolls in approx. 15-20 other countries.

What the job is all about:

 

Payroll Management:

  • Oversee and direct payroll procedures to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and payroll tax obligations.
  • Approve payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, and salary adjustments.
  • Approve all entries into Accounting system and ensure reconciliations are maintained.
  • Manage all internal and external audit requests.
  • Calculate monthly, quarterly and annual bonus accruals.
  • Review and reconcile year-end processes, manage ad-hoc processes such as T2200 issuances.
  • Resolve payroll-related issues.

HRIS Management:

  • Maintain and update the Payroll & Benefits modules in the HRIS to ensure accurate employee data.
  • Collaborate with team to implement system upgrades and improvements.
  • Write reports and ensure data integrity across all systems.
  • Train staff on HRIS functionalities and troubleshoot any system issues.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and analyze payroll reports, including summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, and leave balances.
  • Generate custom reports for management and other departments as needed.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and coach the payroll team, providing guidance and support.
  • Delegate tasks and review work to ensure high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative working environment.

Compliance and Best Practices:

  • Stay updated with current payroll regulations and best practices.
  • Implement and maintain payroll policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with auditors and regulatory bodies for payroll tax audits.

Other:

  • Assist with special HR projects and initiatives as required. Perform other related duties as required.

 

Who you are:

  • Post secondary education in Business Administration, Accounting/Finance and 5 years’ experience in a Payroll management role
  • Certified Payroll Professional or Accounting designation
  • Knowledge of benefits and pension theory and practice, with the ability to use judgment in applying this knowledge when dealing with complex and confidential issues.
  • Strong understanding payroll legislation and compliance/filing requirements.
  • Knowledge of payroll in US, UK and Australia is an asset. Global payroll exposure is a significant benefit.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information with a high degree of diplomacy.
  • Aptitude to leverage technology to gain efficiency and improve processes.
  • Expert level knowledge of payroll software configuration.  Experience with Dayforce (Ceridian) is an asset.
  • Expert level knowledge of accounting software and reporting.
  • Experience with report writing software.
  • High level of proficiency with MS Excel.
