River Edge offers outpatient services at our Emery Highway-Macon, Monroe County and Baldwin County locations. Outpatient services include behavioral health, nursing, and psychiatric assessment, stabilization and medication maintenance services as well as crisis intervention services as well as awareness, education and recovery groups. 

In this role you will....

 Work from the perspective of their lived experience to help build environments conducive to recovery. You will promote hope, personal responsibility, empowerment, education, and self-determination in the communities where they serve.  All CPSs are trained to assist others in skill-building, problem-solving, setting up and maintaining self-help mutual support groups, and building self-directed recovery tools. You will play a critical role of the CPS in supporting others with developing their recovery goals, and specific steps to reach those goals.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday - 3pm-11pm or 11pm-7am and every other weekend.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides a broad range of paraprofessional social services to patients/clients/consumers and their families, participates in treatment team planning, and performs crisis intervention.
  • Assists in dealing with personal and social problems of clients.
  • May provide supportive counseling to consumers and families and/or serve as a liaison for social services.
  • Prepares lesson plans for group topics, maintains medical records and documents daily group notes.
  • Performs case management duties, and group skills training and refers clients to needed services and resources.
  • Monitoring clients for safety issues and concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a primary diagnosis of mental illness or a dual diagnosis of mental illness and addictive disease, and a strong desire to identify themselves as a person with mental illness (current or former consumer of mental health services).
  • Applicants must hold a GED or High School diploma.
  • In addition, applicants must demonstrate strong reading comprehension and written communication skills.
  • You must have demonstrated experience with leadership, advocacy, or governance, and be well grounded in your recovery (one year between diagnosis and application to the training).
  • Must meet the Qualifications for Peer Specialist as defined by the DBHDD Peer Specialist Project.
