About River Edge Behavioral Health
Serving more than 10,000 Georgians, River Edge continues to be one of the state's leading resources for mental health, substance use disorder treatments and supports as well as individuals with intellectual and development disabilities. River Edge offers outpatient services at our Emery Highway-Macon, Monroe County and Baldwin County locations. Outpatient services include behavioral health, nursing, and psychiatric assessment, stabilization and medication maintenance services as well as crisis intervention services as well as awareness, education and recovery groups.
LifeSPRING of River Edge is a nationally recognized and evidence-based residential and outpatient treatment program for women seeking recovery from substance use disorder. LifeSPRING welcomes mothers, pregnant women, and women primarily of childbearing age.
LifeSPRING aids women in achieving self-sufficiency in a supportive, substance-free setting especially designed to address the unique needs of women. We offer outpatient, intensive outpatient, and residential services to include individual, family, and group sessions as well as community support, vocational services, and parenting skills development.
Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:30am- 5:00pm

Duties & Responsibilities
- Under close supervision, provides psychosocial support necessary for coping with substance disorders and mental illnesses.
- Focuses on group dynamics and fosters a therapeutic environment by providing education, crisis management, skills-based training, and counseling services.
- Designs counseling and education services tailored to the unique needs of individuals served.
- Participates in substance abuse training and serves as a direct consultant to staff members, offering clear and meaningful feedback.
- Educates families and significant others on the addiction and recovery process, facilitating family support sessions as required.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in social service field (Social Work, Sociology, Psychology) or related field, such as counseling OR GCADC-1 or CAC-1 with bachelor’s degree. (Required)
- License eligible in one of the following: LAPC, LMSW, LAMFT, LMFT, LPC, LCSW OR GCADC-1 or CAC-1 with bachelor’s degree. (Required)
- Demonstrate knowledge and expertise with the chronically mentally ill population.
- All applicants must pass a satisfactory background clearance and pre-employment drug test.
- Provide 2 Professional reference Statements (Former employers only, no family members)
- Demonstrate expertise and knowledge in mental health and substance abuse services and community resources.
- Exemplify excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
Competencies:
Substance Abuse Counseling Techniques: Knowledge and application of evidence-based counseling techniques specific to substance use disorders, such as motivational interviewing, relapse prevention strategies, and harm reduction approaches.
Crisis Intervention: Ability to effectively assess and manage crises, including suicidal ideation, substance overdose, or acute psychiatric symptoms.
Group Facilitation: Skill in leading group therapy sessions, managing group dynamics, and facilitating discussions on relevant topics.
Empathy: Ability to understand and share the feelings of clients, showing compassion and support without judgment.
Active Listening: Skill in fully concentrating, understanding, responding, and remembering what clients are saying during counseling sessions.
