The Opportunity
Popular Science is excited to add an Associate Editor to our team. If you’re fascinated by how things work and have an enthusiasm for crafting stories, this might be the perfect role for you.
The Associate Editor will be responsible for overseeing our Ask Us Anything series and editing other features as needed. We’re looking for someone who takes joy in organization, loves chasing down random story ideas, has impeccable attention to detail, and understands the importance of fact-based journalism.

Key Responsibilities

Research, write, assign, and edit 1-3 stories/day

Pitch and write 2-4 stories/month

Develop and maintain relationships with freelancers and contributors to ensure a steady flow of high-quality content

General newsroom assistance to keep things running smoothly (homepage maintenance, invoice processing, etc.)

Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices, and make recommendations for improvements to Popular Science’s editorial processes

Work with the editor-in-chief to plan and execute long-term editorial strategies
Qualifications

Minimum 1-3 years editing experience, preferably at a tech or science publication

Minimum 1 year experience writing, preferably for a science publication

Strong grasp of AP style, standard editorial practices, and ethics

Excellent communication, writing and editing skills

General delightful disposition with an ability to deliver helpful feedback
