Position Title: Material Handler

Reports to: Shift Supervisor

Location:  Oxford, CT

Shift:  1st

Department: Manufacturing

Wage:  $18.00 to $23.00/hr.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

 

As a Material Handler at PTA Plastics, you will play a critical role in the smooth and efficient operation of our manufacturing facility. You will be responsible for handling and managing materials used in the plastic injection molding process, ensuring the availability of materials and supplies at all times. Your primary focus will be on maintaining accurate inventory records, transporting materials between departments, and facilitating the overall flow of materials within the facility.

 

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Unload, unpack, and organize materials in designated storage areas, using proper handling techniques to prevent damage or loss.
  • Prepare materials for production by accurately measuring and weighing the required quantities.
  • Transport materials between production areas, utilizing hand trucks, forklifts, or other appropriate equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records by conducting regular cycle counts, reconciling discrepancies, and updating inventory counts in Syteline.
  • Monitor and report low stock levels to the appropriate personnel.
  • Identify and report any quality or safety issues related to materials, equipment, or processes to supervisors.
  • Follow System Procedures (SPs) and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, including the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Load drying hoppers and machine hoppers.
  • Provide corrugated and packaging supplies to technicians and operators.
  • Relieve operators for scheduled breaks and lunch if needed.
  • Maintain accurate reporting of material as it pertains to PTA's material issuance system.
  • Assist in setting up molding machines when required (Colorado only).
  • Work with other warehouse personnel in maintaining an efficient materials flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training is a plus.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, while adhering to safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Proven experience as a Material Handler or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in plastic injection molding.
  • Strong knowledge of material handling practices, including safe lifting and proper storage techniques.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems and procedures.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, hand trucks, and pallet jacks.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining inventory records.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
  • Ability to perform simple math functions.
  • Computer literacy skills.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Physical stamina and endurance to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to access materials and storage areas.
  • Physical fitness and agility to navigate the facility, including climbing stairs and ladders as necessary.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend, and utilize required training from OSHA and the company, including but not limited to the following:
  • Hazard Communication
  • Lock Out/Tag Out
  • First Aid and CPR (optional)
  • Ability to perform moderate lifting in a safe manner, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including uneven surfaces.
