Operations Tax Manager

Summary                                          

 

This role will be responsible for the oversight of regulatory tax requirements including maintaining accurate point in time rules. Successful incumbent will partner closely with operational teams, product, compliance, marketing, and key vendor partners. The Tax Manager will participate in the creation and analysis of requirements for the organization and aid in the maintenance of tax related guidelines and procedures. Research tax implications of federal and state regulated statutes to ensure we are always operating within compliance.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Create and maintain tax specific guidelines and procedures for the Operations Team

 

  • Aid in the review of tax related escalations and complaints to ensure we are making decisions within federal and state compliance

 

  • Ensures timely and accurate responses to meet our SLA objectives while providing a positive customer experience

 

  • Establish consistent reporting for leadership

 

  • Accurately document, track and report on detailed tax related tasks to ensure that the business requirements are being fulfilled

 

  • Work with Compliance Team to complete 50-state survey and align with Operations and TPA to ensure processing is taking place correctly 

 

  • Partner with TPA Tax team to support with any questions and develop consistent processes. Additionally, attend regular meetings with TPA to discuss any federal or state regulated changes in flight

 

  • Aids the Director of Individual Operations in the review of Reg Ed state requirement reviews (CODE) and implementation at the TPA

 

  • Consistently acts professionally in all interactions while utilizing effective written and verbal communication skills

Supervisory Responsibilities                                               

 

This job does not currently have supervisory responsibilities.

 

Education and/or Experience and Skills                                                   

 

  • 5-7 years of experience in life insurance and annuities with 1-2 years specialized focus on Tax, preferred

 

  • Excellent research skills and working knowledge of tax research tools

 

  • Prior experience working directly with a TPA provider

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations and process improvement along with strong business acumen and the ability to translate business plans into actionable solutions

 

  • Knowledge of life and annuity products; fixed, indexed and variable

 

  • Experience analyzing, measuring and evaluating data through reporting

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, at all levels of the organization

 

  • Ability to effectively interact/interface with external parties – TPA partners, customers, and vendors

 

  • Utilize strong critical thinking skills in order to effectively problem solve

 

  • Skills must include being self-motivated with ability to show great initiative individually
