Summer 2025 Structural Engineering Intern

Progressive Companies’ Summer Internship Program is a paid, 12-week opportunity that provides a 100% real-world experience for students early in their career. Throughout the summer you will apply academic learning to real-world situations and cultivate project management, problem-solving, and communication skills. And with service-learning opportunities, community outings, wellness participation, and professional development lunch-and-learns, you’ll build a foundation for working in the Architectural Engineering field in the future.
As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will work collaboratively with project managers and other engineers to perform structural analysis, designing tasks and modeling assignments for a variety of building types, sizes, and materials. You will prepare project work ranging from conceptual design to final construction documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, RISA, and RAM software.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the project team to ensure they achieve project schedules and budgets.
- Manage multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner, monitoring overall project progress according to the project scope and available resources.
- Participate in estimating the time required to complete a project.
- Alert your Technical Leader if you become aware of changes that could affect the project scope, schedule, or your work completion.
- Provide drafting services and final engineering documents consistent with Progressive’s standards.
- Assist in the designing of task and modeling assignments for a variety of building types, sizes, and materials.
- Provide structural analysis consistent with Progressive Companies’ standards.
- Collaborate with various disciplines throughout Progressive Companies. Regularly communicate with Project Manager(s), Project Designer(s) and/or Project Architects(s) to understand any changes to project design, scope, schedule, and budget.
- Understand what the deliverable needs to be to meet your client’s project needs and what it takes to make projects successful.
- Use design and analysis software/technology, including Revit, AutoCAD, RAM, RISA, and other emerging technologies for presentation and production purposes.
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an EAC/ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program with a focus on structures (enrollment in master’s degree program preferred.) Desire to learn about architectural building process. Knowledge of the structural engineering and documentation process preferred.
- Knowledge of structural analysis with a variety of building types, sizes and materials preferred.
- Knowledge of quality assurance/quality control processes and a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to produce construction drawings and specifications. Basic knowledge of structural standards and regulations, and the ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving technical skills, and ability to communicate well as demonstrated through your competencies.
- Knowledge of Revit or AutoCAD required. Experience in RAM or RISA preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred.
