Progressive Companies’ Summer Internship Program is a paid, 12-week opportunity that provides a 100% real-world experience for students early in their career.  Throughout the summer you will apply academic learning to real-world situations and cultivate project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.  And with service-learning opportunities, community outings, wellness participation, and professional development lunch-and-learns, you’ll build a foundation for working in the Architectural Engineering field in the future. 


As a Landscape Architecture Intern, you will work collaboratively with project managers and other landscape architects to complete plan designs and production for landscape architecture design projects.  Typical work includes preparation of design documents, detail libraries, and construction documentation. 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the project team to ensure they achieve project schedules and budgets.
  • Manage multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner, monitoring overall project progress according to the project scope and available resources.
  • Participate in estimating the time required to complete a project.
  • Alert your Technical Leader if you become aware of changes that could affect the project scope, schedule, or your work completion.
  • Provide drafting services and final construction documents consistent with Progressive’s standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentation materials, design, and construction documents.  
  • Assist with site investigation and regulatory research.  
  • Prepare Construction Permitting documents.
  • Participate in field investigations and the process to identify opportunities and constraints. Assist with field inspection services for conformance to plans and specifications and preparation of reports as a follow up.  
  • May attend client and public meetings with senior team members.
  • May consult with regulatory agencies when necessary.
  • Understand what the deliverable needs to be to meet your client’s project needs and what it takes to make projects successful.
  • Maintain a close relationship with your client throughout the project. 

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a LAAB-accredited architecture program. 
  • Basic knowledge of the landscape architectural design and documentation process. Basic knowledge of green infrastructure systems. Basic knowledge of sustainability and other trends in the design/construction industry.  
  • Willingness to learn and participate in the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes. 
  • Basic knowledge of applicable codes (and willingness to learn) along with ability to assist in conducting research for requirements that may need to be incorporated into technical documents. 
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, sustainability, universal design, and other trends in the design and construction industry.
  • Attention to detail with an emphasis on quality work products and client service, demonstrated through your competencies. 
  • Ability to express (and show) a passion for building and maintaining client relationships and providing exceptional customer service in a team environment. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including preparing and performing presentations. 
  • Strong design skills demonstrated in portfolio, as well as the ability to clearly articulate design solutions. 
  • Knowledge of SketchUp, Revit/AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign are required. Experience in producing construction documents preferred. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred.
  • Photography skills preferred.
