As a Senior Specification Writer, you will lead the organization in developing standard specification practices, serve as the lead writer for large project specifications, and function as a resource for staff members writing project specifications. You will ensure seamless integration of building systems with project design and documents while managing BSD SpecLink (or similar) software. Additionally, you will collaborate across disciplines to provide technical guidance, coordinate contract documents, and maintain compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Deliver Results

  • Create standard specification sections in conjunction with subject matter experts across various disciplines.
  • Develop documents tailored for different locations, markets, and regulatory environments.
  • Work with Project Architects and Engineers to understand project requirements and develop specifications accordingly.
  • Assist Project Managers in developing front-end documents for various project types and construction delivery methods.
  • Review project drawings and documentation to write and edit specifications.
  • Translate design requirements into materials, methods, and installation procedures.
  • Perform product research and support material selection and system research.
  • Provide quality management reviews and technical guidance to project teams.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and consultants to stay updated on best practices and solutions.
  • Lead the development and continual improvement of master specification software to reflect project types, sustainability, and regional conditions.
  • Mentor team members and lead lessons learned sessions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Licensed Architect or Engineer preferred; CSI-CCS certification preferred; willingness to complete CSI-CDT within one year required; LEED AP accreditation preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years in the field with specific expertise in specification development.
  • Advanced knowledge of design trends, building systems, material applications, and construction methods; strong proficiency in building codes, quality assurance/control, and project coordination.
  • Experience with BSD SpecLink preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
