As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will build on your competencies of interpersonal savvy and tech savvy to work collaboratively with project managers and other engineers to complete plan designs and production for civil engineering design projects while providing customer focus. You will prepare design documents and permits for site plans, utility plans and profiles, road design, traffic signal plans, traffic studies, grading plans and right-of-way plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D software and MicroStation.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the project team to ensure they achieve project schedules and budgets.
- Manage multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner, monitoring overall project progress according to the project scope and available resources.
- Participate in estimating the time required to complete a project.
Alert your Technical Leader if you become aware of changes that could affect the project scope, schedule, or your work completion. - Provide drafting services and final engineering documents consistent with Progressive’s standards.
- Assist in the preparation of calculations and analyses for storm water management systems, sanitary sewer, water supply and distribution, roadways, traffic studies, and traffic signal design.
- Assist Senior Engineers with transportation related analyses by performing traffic data collection tasks, including intersection turning movements counts, intersection inventories, speed studies, gap studies, delay studies, travel time studies, parking studies, and non-motorized studies.
- Prepare Construction Permitting documents.
- Compile crash data at intersections and prepare collision diagrams.
- Participate in field investigations and the process to diagnose problems.
- Assist with field inspection services for conformance to plans and specifications and preparation of reports as a follow up. Assist in field data gathering for land surveying and traffic impact studies.
- May attend municipal meetings with senior team members.
- May consult with regulatory agencies when necessary.
- Understand what the deliverable needs to be to meet your client’s project needs and what it takes to make projects successful.
- Maintain a close relationship with your client throughout the project.
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an EAC/ABET-accredited Civil or Environmental Engineering program
- Desire to learn about civil engineering. Knowledge of the civil engineering and documentation process preferred. Knowledge of site plans, utility plans and profiles, road design, traffic signal plans, traffic studies, grading plans and right-of-way plans preferred.
- Knowledge of quality assurance/quality control processes and a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to produce construction drawings and specifications. Basic knowledge of civil standards and regulations, and the ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving technical skills, and ability to communicate well as demonstrated through your competencies.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation required. Experience with HEC RAS and EPANET (water distribution) and ArcGIS software, including ArcMap preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred.
