Beach Operations Manager
Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for the safety and services offered at the hotel’s beach. Responsible for the order and cleanliness of the beach and all surrounding areas and leading department staff for carrying out job duties. Assist in coordinating and executing all guest leisure entertainment and activities that is unique to Hawaii, the Big Island, and The Mauna Kea Resort to include beach and water activities in an individual, family, and group setting.
Essential Duties:
1. Maintain visibility in the operation, engage with guests, provide recognition, and promote good public relations. Able to handle concerns and complaints including special requests for hotel guests, club members, homeowners, and group contacts.
2. Enforce department policies and standard operating procedures and ensure hotel safety rules are adhered to on use of the beach and hotel equipment.
3. Conduct pre-shift briefings and inform our team members on current hotel events as well as outside events to keep them updated.
4. Attend daily hotel operations meetings and weekly group resume meetings in absence of the Director of Beach Experience.
5. Train, evaluate, lead, motivate, coach, and discipline all team members in the department to ensure that established Hawaiian culture, service culture and core standards are met.
6. Maintain a proper par level and supply of towels, equipment, furniture, supplies, etc. needed for the beach and games center; ensure all inventory is in condition representative of the Mauna Kea brand.
7. Maintain Wa`a fleet (outriggers) and all other water equipment inventory and ensure proper preventative maintenance program exists for all vessels.
8. Maintain appearance and organization of beach lawn, beach shacks and retail offerings.
9. Manage daily operations of the beach with recommendations on continuously improving our offerings and innovative ideas.
10. Ensure quality of all amenities, ingredients, and service touch points, as well as restock and organize all products and equipment to an attentive and distinctive experience at the beach.
11.. Inspect the beach and surrounding areas for safety hazards and faulty equipment and report corrections and recommend improvements.
12. Conduct daily walkthroughs to ensure our team members are delivering elevated levels of guest service.
13. Perform other related duties as assigned or required by the Director of Beach Experience.
Other Duties:
1. Relieve attendants and hosts as needed.
2. Pick-up debris and trash on beach and surrounding areas.
3. Assist with closing end of day duties and always assist in daily operations throughout the day, with emphasis during “crunch” time and high business levels.
Working Conditions:
1. Work outdoors in the sun and various weather conditions overseeing the beach.
2. Works in normal office conditions assisting in administrative requirements in the absence of the Director of Beach Experience.
Work Hours:
1. Work shifts and days determined by the Director of Beach Experience.
2. Must be flexible to work irregular hours.
3. Must be able to work at least 50 hours per week and occasionally over 50 hours per week based on business levels.
Equipment Use:
1. Golf Cart, ATV, Jet Ski, Automated External Defibrillator, and other rescue equipment & beach equipment.
2. Proficient in the use of a computer and with the resort’s word, excel or other required software.
3. Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers, telephones etc.
Mental and Physical Demands:
1. Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines are met.
2. Able to manage stressful and challenging situations.
3. Able to stand and walk during most of shift.
4. Able to sit at a desk to do administrative duties as assigned by Director of Beach Experience
5. Lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds to service guests with chairs, umbrellas, and supplies.
6. Capable of assisting in water saves/emergency situations, water activities, etc.
Communication Demands:
1. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, department manager and guests/members.
2. Ability to communicate over the phone/radio.
3. Must be able to talk to groups of people.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
1. First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
2. Health Department TB clearance.
3. Two-year work-related experience in leadership capacity preferred.
4. Skills to effectively lead the department and meet goals.
5. Must be pleasant, smiling, and friendly.
6. Must satisfactorily complete First Responder Certification training scheduled by the resort and meet recertification requirements as needed.
7. Ability to complete the USLA thousand-yard run and thousand-yard swim test preferred.
8. Must satisfactorily complete Boater Education Course training scheduled by the resort.
9. Must satisfactorily complete Recreational Thrill Craft Operator Safety Education Course training scheduled by the resort.
10. Experience in Ocean safety preferred.
11. Knowledgeable in Hawaiian culture preferred
