Aloha Ambassador
Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for sharing and perpetuating the Hawaiian culture through daily activities, cultural walking tours on the property and cultural presentations for group sites, special events and/or activities as directed by the Director of Activities. Assist in coordinating and executing all guest leisure entertainment and activities that is unique to Hawaii, the Big Island, and The Mauna Kea Resort to include children’s program, cultural program, group activities, etc. Assist with MK Keiki Club.
Essential Duties:
- Leading in daily cultural activities; to include hula lessons, lei making and all other cultural activities, creating a hospitable environment with our guest
- Leading in cultural walking tours and historical sites amongst the property
- Performing cultural practices and protocols; to include a morning ritual, weekly, a traditional chant for groups, site inspections for Sales and any or all special events as to promote the culture for the hotel
- Creating additional cultural activities to elevate the existing activities
- Assist in the daily operations of the kids program, and cultural program, with recommendations on continuously improving our offerings and innovative ideas.
- Available for site inspections, photo shoots and other sales and promotional participation to drive the culture and create revenue
- Required to promote all activities as listed above for our sister property, the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort, creating a program that is unique to the property
- Lead a cultural component; as created by the Aloha Ambassador, directed by the Director of Activities, to include the following:
- Opening chant and explanation of the chant
- History of Land Division
- History of the Mauna Kea Hotel
- History of the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Other Duties:
- Assist with Keiki Club, sharing cultural activities, as well as ocean and lawn activities
- Maintain a proper supply for cultural activities, as well as kids program, etc.
Working Conditions:
- Work outdoors and various weather conditions
- Works in normal office conditions doing administrative functions
- Working with children and young teens
- Working in big groups
Work Hours:
- Work shifts and days determined by the Director of Activities
- Must be able to work irregular hours
- Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week and occasionally over 40 hours per week based on business levels
Equipment Use:
- Proficient in the use of a computer and with the resort’s word, excel or other required software.
- Ability to use the telephone.
- Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers and facsimile machines.
Mental and Physical Demands:
- Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines is met.
- Able to stand and walk during most of the shift.
- Able to sit at a desk to answer to emails pertaining to culture and cultural activities
Communication Demands:
- Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, department manager and guests/clients.
- Ability to communicate over the phone.
- Must be able to give tours and talk to groups of people.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- DHS licensing for Kids program to include fingerprinting, HS Diploma, references, and employment history.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Health Department TB clearance.
- Must be pleasant, smiling, and friendly.
- Must be creative, knowledgeable in Hawaiian culture preferred.
