Chief Engineer

 

Primary Responsibilities: Review all work orders; supervise and issue work assignments to engineering staff. Prepare weekly work schedules and determine daily staffing requirements. Train, counsel, evaluate and discipline staff under his direction. Assis in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance schedules to protect hotel assets. May negotiate maintenance contracts with outside vendors. Verify and approve payroll information. Oversee the day-to-day of the engineering department. 

 

Essential Duties:

  1. Assist in the preparation of the department annual operating and CIP budget.
  2. Maintain physical plant to standards established by ownership in accordance with luxury resort.
  3. Schedule, train, supervise, counsel and discipline staff under his direction.
  4. Prioritize, direct and supervise daily assignments; assign work orders.
  5. Approve and verify payroll information.
  6. Prepare purchase requests and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  7. Supervise projects, function set-up and major repair work on the resort.
  8. Assist in hiring outside contractors and inspect the contracted projects.
  9. Ensure safety training and standards are maintained and that safety procedures are followed.
  10. Assure the resort follows OSHA and HIOSH regulations and is in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  11. Manage the department following company policies, procedures and terms and conditions of the CBA.
  12. Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Director in his absence.
  13. Oversee the resort’s preventive maintenance program.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
  15. Oversee Laundry engineering operations.

 

Other Duties:

  1. Maintain department bulletin board.
  2. Conduct regular department meetings.
  3. Attend resort management and BEO meetings.
  4. Assign work orders to Engineering staff
  5. Prepare reports as required.

 

Working Conditions: 

  1. Works in a normal office environment.
  2. May work outdoors in various weather conditions to inspect or oversee work being done on the building or surrounding areas.
  3. Must be able to work in enclosed area without air-condition or windows in the hotel building.
  4. Must be able to travel between hotels and throughout the resort.

 

Work Hours:

  1. Must be able to work schedule set by the Director of Engineering.
  2. Must be able to work long and irregular hours.
  3. Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week.

 

Equipment Use:

  1. Proficient in the use of a computer and with the resort’s word, spreadsheet and other required software.
  2. Ability to use the telephone and radio.
  3. Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers and facsimile machines.
  4. Operate a utility vehicle.

 

Mental and Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines are met.
  2. Able to manage stressful and challenging situations.
  3. Able to stand and walk during most of shift.
  4. Bend, stoop, squat, reach, climb ladder to check problems or inspect repairs.
  5. Able to sit at a desk to do administrative duties.

 

Communication Demands:

  1. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, managers, vendors and guests/clients.
  2. Ability to communicate over the phone and radio.

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. 4-year college or minimum 6 years related work experience.
  2. Supervisory skills to effectively lead, direct, and discipline employees.
  3. Able to read blueprints.
