Division:  Laundry (LAU009)

Journeyman 1C

Primary Responsibilities: Does maintenance, repair and installation of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration, architectural and structural systems and equipment throughout the resort. Work may require special skills of a carpenter, plumber, electrician, painter, mechanic or refrigeration mechanic. Does general repair work. Lead, advise, train and perform all duties of personnel in lower grade positions. Is generally responsible for the proper maintenance and servicing of all equipment of the trade in which the journeyman status is held. Originate purchase requests and maintains adequate stock of their trade. Able to make independent decisions on general maintenance and repair work.

Essential Duties:

  1. Maintenance, servicing, installation and inspection of all equipment of the trade in which journeyman status is held.
  2. Perform maintenance, repair and installation of electrical, mechanical, refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  3. Perform maintenance, repair and minor construction, painting and finishing of architectural and structural systems and equipment.
  4. Research and order parts and materials.
  5. May cross train to have working knowledge in other trades to perform necessary work to the limit of his ability, observing all safety precautions.
  6. Working knowledge of OSHA and HIOSH, safety, building codes and laws pertaining to his particular trade.
  7. Direct and train lower graded personnel under his field or scope of work.
  8. Communicate with vendor(s) and manufacturer to troubleshoot and order needed products and parts for scope of work within his assigned jurisdiction.
  9. Assist in special projects.
  10. Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
  11. Follow safety procedures and standards.
  12. Care and clean tools and equipment.
  13. Perform other related duties and assigned or required.

Other Duties:

  1. Keep work area and maintenance shop clean and orderly.
  2. Does periodic inventory.
  3. Assist other engineers as required.

Working Conditions:

  1. Works in various areas throughout the hotel; guest rooms, offices, public areas, kitchens, storerooms, etc. anywhere in need of repair and maintenance.
  2. May work in small cramped areas, with no air conditioning or limited ventilation.
  3. May work in refrigerated area or equipment.
  4. May work in high or elevated areas.

Work Hours:

  1. Ability to work shift and days designated by the Director of Engineering/Assistant/supervisor or coordinator.
  2. Must be able to work in excess of 40 hours per week

Equipment Use:

  1. Ability to use the telephone and radio.
  2. Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers and facsimile machines.
  3. Ability to use repair and maintenance tools and equipment i.e., screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, multi meter, tube cutters, hammer, saw, wire stripper and cutter, torch and tubing bender, vacuum pump, electrical tester, drill, snake, utility knife, snake, socket set, refrigerant gages, and gloves.
  4. Cart or wagon, utility cart, vehicle

Mental and Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines is met.
  2. Able to manage stressful and challenging situations.
  3. Able to stand and walk during most of shift.
  4. Able to bend, squat, stoop, lay down, reach, climb ladders to perform repair, maintenance or installation work.
  5. Lift/carry and push/pull up to and over 50 lbs.
  6. Able to delegate work assignments and lead and direct a crew.

Communication Demands:

  1. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, managers, vendors and guests/clients.
  2. Ability to communicate over the phone or by radio.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. 2 year college or 3 years related work experience.
  2. Maintenance specialty certificate or license (with the exception in the Laundry department;  5-7 years of related work within a manufacturing or laundry facility with a steady progression of growth and experience is acceptable in lieu of a certificate or license)
  3. Able to read and understand blueprints, technical manuals, work orders, written instructions, etc.
  4. Ability to multi-task.
  5. Driver’s License when operating vehicle
