Summary

The Merchandising Stock Associate plays a key role in maintaining an organized and customer-friendly environment within the retail setting. This position is responsible for stocking merchandise on the sales floor, collaborating with team members to ensure efficient product placement, preventing stock-outs, and managing expiration dates. This role supports the store's success by driving sales and customer satisfaction through dedication and teamwork.

Job Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to

  1. Daily Operations:
    • Daily stocking and replenishing of all merchandise stored within warehouse and walk-ins.
    • Prioritizing fast-moving, seasonal and promotional items.
    • Monitoring expiration dates on products within shelves and in storage.
    • Rotate stock following FIFO (First In, First Out) method to support freshness and reduce waste.
    • Communicating any issues with inventory quantities.

2.      Project Execution and Seasonal Setup:

    • Creation and upkeep of seasonal shops, special projects, and displays, ensuring they are completed within deadlines and meet ambitious standards.
    • Create the most lively and beautiful displays for our shops.

3.      Team Collaboration and Leadership:

    • Foster a “one team” mindset by aiding other departments as needed, including assisting departments when faced with callouts or just a great workload. This involves cashiering, bagging stocking, large projects, and cart collection.
    • Act as a resource for team members, offering guidance and setting an example of flexibility, efficiency, and excellence.
    • Take part in team meetings and contribute innovative ideas to improve store operations and customer experience.

4.      Customer Engagement and Satisfaction:

    • Be approachable and proactive in helping customers find products or understand store promotions.
    • Utilizing the correct channels to seek answers for customers.
    • Listen to customer feedback, resolve concerns promptly, and escalate issues as needed to management.
    • Highlight promotions and latest items to customers, driving sales through personal interactions.

5.      Safety, Cleanliness, and Organization:

    • Keep the workspace clean, organized, and free of hazards to ensure a safe environment for employees and customers.
    • Follow all safety protocols as this position requires the use of equipment such as box cutters, step ladders, stocking carts, or pallet jacks.
    • Address spills, broken products, or other safety concerns with the utmost energy.

Education and/or Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent; experience working in supermarket or grocery preferred; or any equivalent combination of formal training and/or experience which provided the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities thereof.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business data and effectively respond to the data. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from vendors, customers, employees, or others involved or associated in the warehouse section function.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts relevant to the role such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

A health certificate and Alcoholic and Beverage Control (ABC) License or ability to obtain a certification/license is required for this position.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers, staff, and management.

Customer Service: Dedication to providing exceptional customer service and resolving issues effectively ensuring “Customers matters most.”

Technical Skills: Familiarity with POS systems and basic computer skills a plus.

Physical Demands of the Job

  1. Standing and Walking: The job often requires prolonged periods of standing and walking around the sales floor, assisting customers, and inspecting merchandise displays.
  2. Lifting and Carrying: Handling merchandise, restocking shelves, and assisting with inventory management might involve lifting and carrying boxes or items of various weights, typically up to 25-50 pounds.
  3. Bending and Reaching: Tasks like rearranging merchandise displays, stocking shelves, or retrieving items for customers may require frequent bending, reaching, and stretching.
  4. Work Environment: The work environment can be fast-paced and dynamic, involving exposure to moderate noise levels, interaction with customers and staff, and occasional stress due to managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  5. Visual and Mental Demands: The role involves constant attention to detail, often requiring the ability to read small print, assess merchandise quality, analyze sales data, and make strategic decisions. Mental agility, problem-solving skills, and the ability to multitask efficiently are essential.
  6. Schedule Flexibility: This role might require flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of the retail schedule, potentially leading to irregular or extended work hours.

Working Conditions

The intensity, frequency, and duration of these physical and mental demands can vary based on the specific tasks, and operational needs. Adherence to safety protocols and proper lifting techniques is crucial to mitigate the risk of injury in a retail environment that involves physical activities.

Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and is mandatory in designated areas and job tasks. Adherence to safety guidelines and protocols is mandatory. Employees are expected to report any unsafe conditions or incidents promptly.
