Setting: 100% Onsite

Schedule: Monday - Friday, (Mornings/Afternoons) / Rotate On-Call /  - Schedule may vary to include occasional weekend days and/or varying shifts due to programmatic need

Status: Full-time/Exempt/Management

SUMMARY:

Sojourn’s Director of Client Services will be responsible for oversight, direction and supervision of internal and external functions of, Crisis/Emergency Shelter Program including 24/7 hotline, Transitional Housing Program and Support Services Program, providing strong day-to-day administrative oversight and ensuring successful performance-based programs. This position is responsible for maintaining the highest quality services and efficiency of programming, while fostering teamwork among staff across the diverse programming located at Sojourn’s shelters and main office. It includes interfacing with entities such as the Domestic Violence Council, Domestic Violence Alliance, other County entities, members of the community, and partner service providers, including homeless organizations and fellow victim service providers.
 
Sojourn’s mission is to provide, without prejudice, shelter and support services to adult and child victims of domestic violence; prevent violence through non-dominant child-rearing, and the re-envisioning of gender stereotypes using a philosophy of nonviolence and individual empowerment; and work toward advancing social justice, locally and globally. Through shelter, support groups, workshops, hotline calls, children’s empowerment programming, legal services, and service referrals, Sojourn brings safety, connection, and hope to individuals and families. Sojourn also works to educate the broader community and advance public policy that affirms the rights of oppressed populations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Under the supervision of the Senior Director the Director of Client Services will:
 
  • Provide oversight of operational components including accurate, up-to-date data collection, quality assurance and contract management adhering to guidelines set by DV best practices and standards. Includes but is not limited to:
    • Ensure accurate determining of eligibility for program services for potential program participants (identified by Sojourn DV hotline screenings).
    • In collaboration with directors and management, develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems necessary to maintain high-quality programs and services, and to ensure adequate controls and outcomes information
    • Oversee program data collection and ensure timely reporting of compliance and contract activities for funding sources. Responsible for writing and submitting (in conjunction with grant writing/development/Compliance etc. staff) all interim and progress reports to funders. Prepare written reports and complete related projects as requested.
      • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of services through timesheets, case notes, incident reports, etc;
      • Assist with gathering necessary documentation for RFP process when funding opportunities are identified
      • Maintain expert knowledge of procedures for billing, reporting, and documentation, including requirements for maintaining client files and records.
      • Conduct ongoing record review and client file management for quality assurance and audit preparation.
      • Assist with program/fiscal audits and monitoring visits.
      • Develop and plan strategically for future programmatic needs and community partnerships. Responsible for helping develop and oversee all program budgets and physical forecasting, ensuring that all allocated funds are spent appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Use a Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, and Housing First methodology to ensure that participants are supported in fleeing domestic violence and preventing or ending their homelessness by securing or remaining housed.
    • Collaborate and partner with Non-HMIS, HMIS/CES system service providers or facilitate advocacy within homeless and victim services organizations as necessary to ensure most vulnerable are being matched to best-fit housing.
    • Work in collaboration with staff to identify appropriate services for each individual or family's needs, and remove barriers affecting victims of domestic violence, including placement in permanent housing and long-term housing retention.
    • Provide back-up support and program coverage as needed ensuring adequate coverage of each site, including emergencies, vacation & sick time in cooperation with program management; - must be prepared to sub another’s role when needed (including occasional overnight shifts when needed.
    • Assist with client crises as needed (conflicts and grievance resolution, safety planning, etc) using trauma-informed de-escalation and mediation techniques
    • Rotate on-call with other Directors, Assistant Directors and Management
  • Provide individual and team supervision, support, and performance evaluations for assigned staff, and assist with small and larger team case conference.
    • Recruit, hire, train and essential personnel within the guidelines of The People Concern personnel policies, adhering to trauma-informed, harm reduction, non-violent philosophy; including, Provision of weekly supervision, self-evaluation and program evaluation to staff
    • Work with Program Managers, and Directors to ensure sites are clean, safe and well-maintained.
    • Work in coordination with Senior Director to provide leadership development and in-service training for Assistant Directors, managers and staff programmatic development, to ensure implementation of empowerment model, harm reduction and trauma informed care methodologies and DV best practices in every aspect of client care and service
    • Consistently develop and ensure access to effective up-to date resources

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s license, reliable car, auto insurance legally required in State of California, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Experience in supervision of staff in a 24-hour shelter social services program;24-hour Domestic Violence shelter experience required
  • Experience and/or extensive knowledge of best practices for DV support services for sheltered and non-sheltered community clients
  • Extensive experience working with underserved, vulnerable populations.
  • Extensive understanding of Domestic Violence Survivor population and their specific needs for services.
  • Adequate knowledge of DV funding sources/providers and requirements for reporting and data collection
  • Experience with data, report submission and implementation of victim services contract requirements required
  • Trustworthy, honest, and team player.
  • Ability to supervise participants and staff with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Must engage participants and staff in positive interactions and troubleshoot problems as they surface.
  • Must exhibit sound decision-making in high stress situations. In particular, related to crisis response and safety planning.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and implement cultural responsiveness
  • Ability to handle communications with public, TPC staff and volunteers via phone or in person.
  • Literate with the ability to operate basic computer functions. Proficient in Microsoft WORD, Excel and PPT
  • Ability to maintain and ensure client confidentiality throughout the program.
  • Able to supervise sanitary conditions at all times in all areas including, client rooms, general areas, and communal living areas.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed, and handle emergencies which may occur daily, nightly, or overnight.
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to develop, facilitate and implement programmatic policy/procedure
  • Willingness to receive 40-hour Domestic Violence Training

 

Preferred Qualifications:
