The Safety Manager is responsible for the development and administration of training strategies, plans, and processes that pertain to the company’s driver training program. Responsible for developing and administering the company’s safety and risk prevention programs and policies in order to meet the compliance and reporting requirements of city, state, and federal regulations.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in the design, development and implementation of the Driver Training Program & Driver Improvement Program for the purpose of presenting, reinforcing, and/or developing driver skills in accordance with federal and state DOT regulations. 
  • Assesses and resolves incidents, complaints, and/or accidents that involve employees in a timely manner.
  • Inspects all driver transportation services to ensure they are completed efficiently, and within regulatory requirements. Recommends policies and procedures to meet the service and safety goals of the company. 
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after standard business hours to resolve immediate safety concerns and liability.
  • Maintains knowledge of all applicable OSHA, EPA, ADA, DOT, and other applicable regulations and requirements as they relate to the company’s vehicles and operations.
  • Designs, develops and conducts safety and environmental training programs.
  • Collects, analyzes, and maintains data essential for effective safety and environmental programs.
  • Manages driver and safety training requests from other departments and station managers.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources for the implementation and management of the company’s drug and alcohol testing program for the purpose of ensuring a drug free and safe workplace. 
  • Performs functions such as interviewing, supervising, counseling, training, and evaluating.
  • Conducts periodic environmental, health, and safety audits in all company facilities and employees.
  • Maintains accurate records in the administration of all assigned programs, and maintains an accurate database for such policies.
  • Assists the Safety Director and Training & Compliance Manager in all DOT and OSHA-related audits statewide for the Company. 
  • Prepares and presents information concerning operational effectiveness and service levels to the Safety Director.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned in a positive and professional manner.
  • Valid CDL license preferred. Possession of a valid CDL B license with passenger and airbrake endorsement is required within 6 months of employment.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, or related field, or seven years of progressive experience of comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.  

 

Experience:

  • Five years of experience with managerial responsibilities in transportation management, or related functions required, or any combination of experience or education of comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of equipment and facility safety programs and procedures.
  • Able to conduct coaching, counseling, and investigative interviews with staff members with consistent standards and sound ethics.
  • Able to facilitate meetings and discussions in order to problem-solve issues. 
  • Able to manage projects and meet deadlines as required.  
  • Possesses excellent organizational and presentation skills.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Possesses intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, and PowerPoint. 
  • Possesses knowledge of principles and processes for organizational communication, ethics, safety, and compliance.
  • Customer service duties require relating to customers, vendors, employees, and management in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to multi-task, think independently, and make sound decisions based on facts.
  • Requires the ability to work unsupervised and independently.
  • Ability to travel to neighbor island stations routinely.

 

Knowledge, Requirements & Skills:

  • Working conditions require frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
