Chief Operations Officer
Position Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Location: Hybrid to start (25% travel to Boise, ID) – Relocation, preferred.

Position Overview: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee the company’s day-to-day operational functions, ensuring the alignment of operational activities with the company's strategic goals. The COO will work closely with the CEO, executive team, and department heads to enhance operational efficiency, improve service quality, and drive growth. This position is key to optimizing the business processes in a way that creates value for the company’s employees, customers, and shareholders.
As an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan), the COO must be an advocate for our employee-owners and help cultivate a culture of ownership, accountability, and performance-driven results. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the mortgage industry, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership:
- Lead and manage the company’s daily operations across all departments, including underwriting, processing, servicing, compliance, funding, loan integration, post closing, and IT.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that ensure the company meets its short-term and long-term goals.
- Ensure operational efficiency, scalability, and sustainability by streamlining processes, improving workflows, and leveraging technology.
- Employee Ownership Culture:
- Foster a culture of employee ownership by encouraging engagement and understanding of the ESOP structure and its benefits.
- Work with senior leadership to develop initiatives that enhance employee involvement, motivation, and sense of ownership in the company’s success.
- Champion the development of educational programs related to the ESOP and financial literacy for employees.
- Strategic Planning & Growth:
- Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to develop, refine, and execute the company’s strategic plan, focusing on growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
- Identify and drive new business opportunities, partnerships, and market expansion strategies to ensure long-term competitive advantage.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to proactively respond to market shifts.
- Financial and Risk Management:
- Oversee budgetary and financial processes to ensure operations are executed within financial parameters, and manage resource allocation effectively.
- Work closely with the CFO to assess financial risks and opportunities and take corrective actions when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements in the mortgage industry, including federal, state, and local laws.
- Leadership and Team Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of department heads and key operational leaders.
- Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and results-driven work environment that aligns with the company’s values and culture.
- Regularly assess employee performance and provide coaching and development opportunities to maximize individual and team potential.
- Technology and Innovation:
- Oversee the integration of new technologies and systems to improve operational efficiencies, service delivery, and customer experience.
- Lead efforts in digital transformation, exploring automation, data analytics, and other technological innovations to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Customer Experience:
- Drive an exceptional customer experience by overseeing the mortgage process from application through to loan closing, ensuring timely and efficient service.
- Monitor and improve client satisfaction, addressing any operational challenges that impact the borrower’s journey.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior operational roles, preferably within the mortgage industry.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a high-growth, complex organization, with a strong understanding of mortgage operations and regulatory environments.
- Experience with ESOP structures and an understanding of employee ownership dynamics.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and lead diverse teams.
- Proven track record of driving operational efficiencies and scaling businesses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with all levels of employees, including executive leadership and staff.
- High level of strategic thinking and the ability to align day-to-day operations with long-term company goals.
- Solid understanding of financial management, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance in the mortgage sector.
- Tech-savvy, with a keen interest in leveraging technology for operational improvement.
