Your Impact: 

As a key member of the Greater Philadelphia YMCA (GPY) fundraising team, the Major Gifts Officer will work with both the Senior Management and Financial Development teams to develop and implement key major gift fundraising tactics for the organization.  He/She/They would translate GPY priorities into appropriate major gift fundraising opportunities and identify investors for a long-term development plan to support continued growth of the organization.  He/She/They would collaborate and work closely with leadership in identifying and responding to gift opportunities and will maintain an active portfolio of key major gift prospects.

What You’ll Do: 

  • In conjunction with the Chief Development Officer, Senior Director of Development and Development Staff, the Director of Development, Major Gifts will be responsible for the creation of a personal major gift plan of individual donors to support our innovative programs as well as specific branches that house and support these impactful programs. 
  • Maintain fluid and proactive communications with colleagues to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving key fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Support the development of an active major gifts development program for the Association including benchmarks, research, cultivation strategies and stewardship plans.
  • In consultation with the Branch Executive Directors and the Director of Development, Annual Campaign, establish and maintain a portfolio of 75-100 major gift prospects.  Manage and grow this portfolio in a manner that fosters relationships, which leads to philanthropic commitments from $5000 to $49,999.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the educational, programmatic, and financial needs and goals of the GPY to offer compelling articulation for investors.
  • Growth of major gift fundraising year over year through cultivation of new prospects.
  • Work with Financial Development and Grant Managers to translate strategic initiatives and programmatic/capital needs into persuasive proposals and compelling major gift opportunities. 
  • Work with GPY Event Leaders and Development Officers to cultivate and steward major gift prospects and donors.  This position does not oversee any fundraising events.
  • Ability to articulate, both written and orally, a compelling case for major philanthropic support for unrestricted funding or specific programs, presenting objectives persuasively to potential donors.
  • Collaborate on, participate in the creation and development of a comprehensive stewardship plan.

 

What Qualifications You’ll Need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced study or additional degree preferred
  • Represent the Greater Philadelphia YMCA on behalf of its leadership to potential major stakeholders.
  • Fundraising related trainings such as AFP and/or CFRE a plus
  • Experience in Salesforce NPSP program preferred
  • 5+ years of direct Major Gifts and fundraising experience, preferably at a community center, academic medical center, hospital system, top university or a comparable complex organization.
  • A demonstrated record of successful major gift fundraising including qualification, cultivation, solicitation and closing of individual, major gifts.
  • Broad background including experience in several functional areas.  Particular strength in the area of individual gifts is essential.  Additional experience in planned, annual, corporate and foundation giving and events is desirable.
  • Experience in leading a multi-constituent program including the development and execution of an operating plan in collaboration with a department head.  Proven experience in strategy development, goal setting and achievement is essential.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and a capacity to engage, inspire and persuade multiple constituencies, both within the institution and beyond.  These skills need to be combined with an ability to develop trust and collaborative working relationships with colleagues. 
  • An innate ability to execute under pressure and stay on task. Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Especially strong problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and roll-up-my-sleeves approach
  • Experience working on or with multiple fundraising programs and/or campaigns at one time.
