Job Summary: The Recreation Coordinator oversees the Recreation department and provides support and supervision to Recreation Therapists on staff. The Activity Coordinator works as part of a multidisciplinary team who encourages individuals with mental illness, special needs and other circumstances to acquire new skills and to get involved in health-promoting leisure activities, such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and gardening as a way to improve mental and physical wellbeing. The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for adhering to regulations by which each program is governed under, either through OCFS, OMH or OPWDD. Organizing and scheduling structured activities is also an essential function of the job. Essential Job Duties: 1. Provides routine and ongoing supervision, support and guidance to the Recreation Therapists. 2. Evaluate the work of Recreation Therapists programming to ensure varied activities appropriate to the goals and objectives of the youth’s treatment plan are implemented. 3. Attends OCFS/RTF program meetings as well as individual youth’s meetings to discuss their recreational needs/outcomes. 4. Maintains environmental safety checks in all recreational properties and equipment. 5. Involved in hiring of staff, interns and per diem employees; including those involved with specialty groups (i.e.: yoga, drumming, Zumba etc.). 6. Involved as a community liaison; involving youth in programs outside of the agency to prepare for independent living/discharge or recreational pursuits. 7. Research youth program opportunities in the community and funding sources. 8. Develop action plans and programs to respond to identify needs for improvement and change in both areas of program and staff development. 9. Oversees the requisitioning of therapeutic activity supplies and equipment. 10. Involved in the OLV Human Services Wellness Program; along with nursing, nutrition, spirituality and food service to work as a team to achieve wellness goals with youth. 11. Maintains supports and adheres to the policies, procedures and philosophy of the organization. 12. Involved in coordination of services with the Bridges to Health Program to utilize connections in the community and facilities here on grounds and establish a teen night program for intercity foster youth. Coordinating respite and skill building programming for the youth. 13. Any other duty as requested by your supervisor. Skills: • Computer skills • Customer skills • Organizational skills Competencies Template: Manager/Supervisor Education: Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy Experience: Minimum Experience Required: 4 years working with youth with behavioral/emotional issues. Required License/Registration/Certification: • Valid NYS Driver’s License • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification • TCI Certification Training: – New Hire Orientation Physical Requirements: The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions • The constant physical demands of the position are standing and walking. • The frequent physical demands of the position are sitting, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination. • The occasional physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. |
