Being a Baker at Mazurek's you will be responsible for preparing, baking, and decorating a wide variety of products. You will work closely with our team to ensure that all items are made to the highest standards, and you will contribute to creating a welcoming and positive environment in our bakery while teaching our clients and participants baking skills! 

Job Summary:

This position requires a reliable person with experience in a bakery. Must be able to work independently, knowledgeable with ingredients, professional commercial kitchen equipment, and proper food handling procedures. The baker will strive to provide excellent baked items and service in an efficient, professional manner. The Baker will design, execute, and improve recipes, perform quality checks on ingredients and finished products. The Baker will assist team members and manager in product execution, including production of icing, glazes, etc. to ensure acceptable presentation, and customer satisfaction. The baker will answer questions, clean workstations and equipment, and perform other duties to ensure that the needs of the bakery are met, including keeping the bakery well-stocked and operating smoothly.  The Baker should be efficient and friendly with a focus on food quality, production and customer satisfaction. The Baker should be organized, decisive, attentive, and possess a strong understanding of customer service.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Following and executing recipes.
  • Measuring and combining ingredients and using mixers, blenders, heat sources, and other equipment to make baked goods, such as cookies, bread, cakes, etc.
  • Decorating and displaying finished products if necessary
  • Providing exceptional customer service when necessary and ensuring production is held at a high standard
  • Use of a scale, dough formation, general understanding of the bread making process
  • Cleaning and restocking workstations and ensuring that all equipment is sanitized and prepared for the next shift.
  • Keep product stocked for daily operations.
  • Manage supplies and preparation; communicate to staff when order supplies is necessary
  • Keep storage, preparation and working areas clean and orderly
  • Work as a team member with other bakery, WAY and agency staff
  • Contribute useable information concerning specialty area
  • Attend regularly scheduled supervision meetings and staff development training as needed
  • Attend in-service training as needed
  • Experience with a sheeters, rounders, mixers, fryers and proofing equipment is preferred

Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret recipes and customer order forms.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints, or understand when to consult management for assistance.
  • Ability to appropriately interact with, monitor and assess, and transfer skills to employees.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials related to trades.
  • Working knowledge of  POS System
  • Strong communication, time and resource management, and planning skills, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Attention to detail, especially when performing quality inspections on ingredients and products.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Willingness to work independently or with other team members to solve problems, plan schedules, fulfill orders, and create amazing baked goods.
  • Flexibility to work around customer demands, including early morning, night, weekend and holiday availability.
  • Ability to work in hot, hectic environment, stand, walk, bend, use hands and appliances, and lift heavy items for extended periods.

Education:

  • HS diploma preferred

 

Experience:

-  1 year minimum experience in career related field

-   Food Handler Certification, preferred

 

License/Registration/ Certification:

  • Valid N.Y.S Driver’s License preferred

 

 

Physical Requirements  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
