Administration- Staff Accountant 

AVNA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This entry-level position is ideal for a junior accounting professional eager to gain experience in both general accounting and costing functions. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with various accounting tasks, including accounts payable, bank reconciliations, purchase price reporting, and gross margin analysis. This individual will work closely with the accounting team and will have an opportunity to grow and develop their skills in both general accounting and costing areas.

Key Responsibilities:

General Accounting

  • Maintain the Accounts Payable email folder and correspondence, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  •  Provide backup support for accounts payable invoicing during periods of high workload or team absence.
  • Execute weekly check runs and ensure payments are processed accurately and on time.
  • Process positive pay transactions to safeguard company assets.
  • Assist in monthly expense system posting and accrual processes.
  • Perform monthly credit card reconciliations.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements, ensuring accuracy and completeness of records.

Costing

  • Prepare and report on monthly purchase price variances.
  • Post monthly indirect labor costs, ensuring proper allocation to appropriate cost centers.
  • Support the closure of accounting periods, ensuring all necessary entries are made for accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist in generating and reviewing gross margin reports to monitor business profitability.
  • Contribute to profitability meetings, offering insights from accounting data.
  • Support the physical inventory process, ensuring accuracy in reported inventory levels.
  • Understand and assist with cycle counting procedures to maintain accurate inventory records.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • An associate’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field or 3 years of experience in accounting or a related field is required.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office products – excel necessary.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger activities a plus.
