Engineering - Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Position Summary

AVNA is currently seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer that will be directly engaged and responsible for manufacturing process support for multiple products within structured product lines.  As a key role in our sustaining group, you will provide support to production operations for the achievement of our quality goals & objectives such as OTD, Scrap & Efficiency.  You will work closely with several disciplines of the company including NPD, Quality Assurance, Facilities and Supply Chain group.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing our manufacturing processes to ensure efficient production and high-quality products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide technical expertise, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence. You’ll take ownership and drive results, performing challenging and nonroutine manufacturing engineering work requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. You will provide daily support to the production floor to ensure continuous production of quality product.

This is a regular, full-time job opportunity based in our Berlin, CT facility but servicing both our Berlin and New Britain, CT locations.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Develop, validate, and implement manufacturing strategies and processes to optimize efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, quality engineers, and production personnel, to ensure smooth production operations and timely delivery of products. Resolve production issues as they occur.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective action(s) to resolve production issues and minimize downtime. As part of the process design and coordinate applicable engineering tests/experiments. Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from complex test results.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, drawings, 3D CAD models, process flow charts, visual standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead and participate in process improvement projects, utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to identify and eliminate waste, improve productivity, and enhance product quality. Create plans that allow the monitoring and understanding of metrics post implementation.
  • Train and mentor junior manufacturing engineers, providing guidance and support in their professional development.

Skills

Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, and inspection.
  • Knowledge of value-add manufacturing technologies – secondary presses, welding, automation equipment, vision systems, grinders, etc.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, execute, and monitor projects to meet objectives and timelines.
  • Strong leadership skills – ability to energize, motivate and inspire others. Excellent analytical, technical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Track record of continuous improvement and cost reductions.
  • Outstanding communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with 3D CAD (Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD).
  • Good command of ANSI Y 14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and experience with functional gaging techniques and tolerance interpretation.
  • Working knowledge of ISO13485.

     

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing resource planning (Plex ERP a plus).

    Preferred:

    • Experience in a highly regulated industry, such as aerospace or medical devices.
    • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and tolerance analysis.
    • Experience with PFMEA

    Education/Experience

    Bachelor of Science Degree (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Technology preferred).

    Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a contract metalworking (metal stamping, machining, automated assembly) environment.

    Lean Six Sigma green belt (black belt preferred).

    Experience in high volume metal working production (>10 million units per year), a strong plus.
