Job Overview:  

  • Provides support to the Taft, CA factory in the areas of Quality and Energy use optimization in alignment with Oil-Dri’s strategic Mission, Vision, and our WE CARE values.
  • Supports facility leadership through monitoring and evaluating existing Quality and Energy processes then developing management and improvement plans, followed by accountability for the plans’ effectiveness.

 

Responsibilities:

  • With guidance from SHEQ Director, provide process engineering support for locally specific Quality and Energy use focused improvement and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare periodic Quality and Energy use reports and performance tracking communications.
  • As needed, lead incident investigation teams assured us that proper action was taken, and proper notification and reporting has occurred.

Energy Systems Administration:

  • Provide system expertise regarding the factory’s energy use management functions (currently solar, micro turbines, and battery system). Use this expertise to optimize the factory’s energy use.
  • Provide analytical support required to meet the energy supply needs of Oil-Dri's Taft, CA factory. This includes managing data collection, assessment, and reporting regarding energy statistics on real-time, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Assist in the analysis and development of continuous improvement suggestions for reliable, cost-effective energy supply opportunities based on financial analysis, trend analysis of actual plant energy consumption and costs, and available industry energy-related data.
  • Support participation in regulatory activities and assisting in satisfying the required government and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Support development and execution of Renewable Energy strategies to align with Corporate Sustainability objectives.

Quality Systems Administration:

  • Audit the Quality Management System and work with the Operations Team on improvement opportunities identified.
  • Administers the organization's total quality programs and processes.
  • Develops data collection processes to produce metrics used in the auditing and analysis of processes.
  • Tracks and measures quality results.
  • Contributes to training and development of teams to guide continuous improvements.
  • Incorporates improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, or Kaizen in total quality activities.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

  • 100% of work time will be in the factory location, some travel primarily for training and development.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (BS) from four-year college or university required. 2 to 4 years related experience in manufacturing operations. Basic knowledge of the Process industry, energy management concepts, and/or experience in a manufacturing environment desired.
  •  Moderate knowledge/skill. Developing proficiency in the role.
  • Hands-on experience creating and revising standard operating procedures, process work instructions, and forms. Creating and revising process standards as needed.
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and delegate tasks readily.
  • Excellent communicator
  • Strong interpersonal skills, plus oral and written communication skills, including excellent presentation skills.
  • Must be able and willing to work extended hours as required (including weekends).
  • Works under moderate supervision.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Some latitude for independent judgement within guidelines.

Computer Skills:

  • Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet, and word processing software, electronic mail, statistical software, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.

Certifications:

  • The position requires certification as an American Society of Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), and/or Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Lean Bronze & Silver Certifications, as determined by manager and/or annual goals.
  • If not already done, the certification requirements must be met within 36 months of being assigned the position with the first attempt at certification within the first 12 months.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The work environment is not climate controlled. Goggles/safety glasses, safety boots, welding shield, respirators, gloves, etc. are required.

Compensation:

  • $79,293 - $119, 045 annually
