RN - Classroom Nurse

Oak Hill is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Registered Nurse (RN) to assist in maintaining and improving the health and wellbeing of individuals by monitoring health status and providing appropriate treatments to individuals with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities to enable their highest quality of life in terms of their physical, emotional, and mental health while adhering to Oak Hill’s policies and procedures.  This person will inspire others and make a life changing impact while achieving professional growth and personal fulfillment.  Oak Hill sets the standard, partnering with people with disabilities, to provide services and solutions promoting independence, education, health, and dignity. As specified by the IEP, the classroom registered nurse implements all medical procedures, treatments, or medications for Oak Hill School students.  Additionally, in keeping with Oak Hill School mission, the RN supports all Oak Hill School educational services, assists in building students’ self-advocacy, independence, and reinforce students’ dignity and quality of life.

Initiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the classroom community. Classroom registered nurse supervises all LPNs on site. Also, to support the medical needs of students, the classroom nurse will pick up medications as necessary.

 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Learning Environment, Engagement, and Commitment to Learning:

  • Promotes student/adult learner engagement, independence and interdependence in learning and facilitates a positive learning community by promoting positive learning environment that is respectful and equitable.
  • Promotes developmentally appropriate standards of behavior that supports a productive learning environment.
  • Maximizes service delivery by effectively managing routines and transitions.

Adheres to American Nurses Association (ANA) and National Association School Nurses (NASN) codes of ethics, as well as school district policies, educational laws, and health care laws to guide decision making in his or her practice.

Planning the implementation of healthcare plans to engage students in their educational process:

  • Designs health care plans that support student academics, social/behavioral, therapeutic, crisis or consultative plans to engage student/adult learners in rigorous and relevant learning and to promote their curiosity about the world at large:
  • Collects comprehensive data pertinent to student’s healthcare; includes all the essential components such as emergency action plan.
  • Collaborates with the inter-disciplinary team, family members and other health care providers to develop individualized health care plans based off evidence-based information.
  • Works with school personnel to implement any individualized healthcare plans that aligns to the student’s IEP.

 

Staff Supervision and Training:

 

  • Along with a classroom Certified Teacher, addresses staff disciplinary issues; determines implications, and implements/recommends appropriate disciplinary actions up to the hearing of grievances, and communicates to employees as appropriate.
  • Along with a classroom Certified Teacher, completes annual performance evaluations of all classroom staff
  • Trains and communicates Oak Hill’s policies to staff, state and federal regulations, health & safety practices and procedures, and any other applicable laws and regulations.

  • Collaborates to develop and sustain a professional learning environment to support student learning.

Works with colleagues, students, and families to develop and sustain a positive school climate that supports student learning.

Education: must meet the Minimum Requirements for Registered Nurse

 

Skills/Training/Experience: Knowledge of school nursing and State board of Education requirements.

 

Competency:  Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop, implement, and evaluate; analyze, organize, interpret; define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and identify solutions; direct and present information to individuals and groups; manage accurate records; manage timelines, work plans, and make policy recommendations as necessary. Mission driven with ability to plan and follow projected vision to positive result

Preferred Requirements:

Education: Associate Skill Nursing, in good standing with the American Nurses Association.

Skills/Training/Experience: 3 years or more of school nurse experience.

 

Competency:  Proven excellent in interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop, implement, and evaluate; analyze, organize, interpret; define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and identify

solutions; direct and present information to individuals and groups; manage accurate records; manage timelines, work plans, and make policy recommendations as necessary. Mission driven with ability to plan and follow projected vision to positive end results.
