About the position:

The Maintenance Mechanic works 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 7a-3p FLEX and maintains, builds, repairs, replaces, and modifies equipment, appliances, and buildings for all assigned buildings and grounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of skilled craft work such as home construction or renovation, carpentry, masonry, HVAC, electrical and plumbing repairs, troubleshooting of various household systems, to create and maintain an environment which is safe and attractive, and which meets the needs of individuals residing in the home, students attending class, and employees.
  • Assumes responsibility for overall maintenance functions as assigned by their supervisor, to ensure that the environmental needs are met, and facilities continue to be properly maintained.
  • Performs emergency maintenance mechanic jobs, as needed to ensure a safe and comfortable environment.
  • On a daily basis, prioritizes and coordinates electronic work orders for repairs or service as received. Prioritizes all emergency and health and safety work orders. Updates the electronic work order system on a daily basis, including but not limited to, status updates on completion of work order and closing out all completed work orders.
  • Responds to calls for maintenance mechanic assistance 24-hours per day, 7 days per week.
  • Responds to calls other than calls from assigned sites based on related skill area, as needed.
  • Understand and prepare for all licensing and inspection requirements as required in facilities.
  • Responsible for the coordination of landscaping and snow removal, as needed.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections to identify potential hazards. Resolve health and safety issues quickly, with collaboration from leadership as needed to create a safe workplace.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of regular maintenance of assigned vehicle.

 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma Required.
  • 5 years of broad experience in mechanical and building trades required.
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, methods processes, materials, machines, and tools of the mechanical and building trades. Ability to understand and apply such practices, methods, and processes.
  • Knowledge of the operation, and maintenance of oil-fired hot water and low-pressure steam heating equipment.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, diagrams, and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of gardening, landscaping, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Skills in the use and maintenance of landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in an environment with individuals with disabilities and interact well with fellow employees, contractors, administrators, students, participants, and the general public.
  • Daily local travel.
  • Physical demands of the position include the ability to work in various locations such as attics, basements, roofs; and in various precarious positions such as overhead, bending down, on step ladders, on extension ladders, or outdoor weather conditions.
  • Requires work that involves physical activity such as bending, stooping, repetitive hand use, reaching, regular use of hand tools, and regular lifting of weights, at time over 50 pounds. It also requires climbing of stairs and ladders to access items for repair and replacement. The noise level for this job is moderate to loud. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Environmental conditions include inclement weather and potentially be in contact with occupational chemicals.
