About the position:

The Certified Teacher at Oak Hill’s Hartford Classroom works 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8a-4p. The Certified Teacher plans, organizes and facilitates all student instruction. Supervises all students and staff. Develops, implements, and monitors programs that seek to develop the functional academic, vocational, social, and ADL skills of students to enhance independence and quality of life. Applicants currently in school matriculating toward a Special Education Master’s degree; have experience in an educational environment or have experience working with individuals with disabilities; are ready to inspire and support staff to help students achieve their educational goals, are encouraged to apply.

 

Minimum Requirements:                                                              

  • Master’s degree; Valid Connecticut Department of Education Special Education Teacher Certification
  • At least age 18
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • Becomes familiar with student information; ensure that programs are developed to implement and meet student educational needs; provide consistency in program implementation.
  • According to each student PPT, develops Individualize Educational Plan (IEP), based on student formal and informal student assessment. Includes medical, behavioral, and recreational activities.
  • Complete student assessments and ecological inventories with goals in support of the interdisciplinary team process objectives.
  • Implements instructional content for learning (academic, ADL, behavior and therapeutic programs developed by the Trans-Disciplinary Team).
  • Coordinates and writes students schedules outlining routines.
  • Writes and submits quarterly progress reports and participates in quarterly meetings with parents.
  • Leads students to construct meaning and apply new learning through differentiated and evidence-based learning strategies that meet individual needs of each student. Assesses student learning and provides feedback to students, parents, and support staff as needed.
  • Plans instructional content that is aligned with standards, builds on student’s prior knowledge, and provides for appropriate level of challenge for all students.
  • Completes thematic planning, master schedule, and scaffolding instruction
  • Collaborates and attends trans-disciplinary meeting; exchanges information, evaluates and determines program modifications
  • Leads, encourages, and inspires employees assigned to classroom team; trains and evaluates; completes supervisory monthly one-to one meetings and annual performance evaluations.
