Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)) are a plus. OSHA certifications may be accepted in lieu of a college degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental health and safety, preferably within a health and human services or similar organizational setting.
- Driver’s License Required.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
- Familiarity with risk assessment techniques, safety management systems, and emergency preparedness.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in using EHS management software and tools.
- Superior customer service skills, including the ability to interact well with varying personalities.
- Good writing and oral communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the organization adheres to all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations. Stay updated on changes in legislation and adjust policies and procedures as needed. Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents. Prepare and present reports to senior management and regulatory agencies as required.
- Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions. Manage workers compensation cases. Investigate workplace accidents and incidents, prepare reports, analyze data and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.
- Innovation: Create and update EHS policies and procedures to reflect current best practices and regulatory requirements. Seek and implement new technology, new processes and new approaches to mitigate safety risks, as well as workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and crisis management strategies. Develop and deliver training programs on safety procedures, emergency response, and compliance requirements for employees at all levels.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other Human Resources, Schools, Community Programs, and other departments to integrate EHS practices into daily operations. Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors.
