Construction Inspector II
Section 1 – Position Summary
This position requires advanced level construction work involving the continuous, on -site inspection of municipal- type construction as assigned. Individual works independently and may make limited independent decisions altering construction methods within the prerogatives of the contract specifications. May provide guidance to coordinate work of Construction Inspector I.
Section 2 – Major Responsibilities
1. Inspects the construction of all new facilities for the NTMWD for the purpose of determining that such facilities are completed in accordance with the plans and specifications.
2. Advises the Inspector Supervisor when work performed is not per contract documents, when corrective action is not implemented by the Contractor and construction activities.
3. Writes a daily report of all activities, weather conditions, quantities of work, etc.
4. Verifies the quantity of work accomplished on each monthly estimate.
5. Ensures that materials and equipment installed conform to approved submittals.
6. Available to the Contractor during all working hours for the purpose of resolving questions that may arise concerning the construction.
7. Ensures that construction activities are confined to District easements and that special conditions of easement grants are fulfilled.
8. Verifies that the contractor is adhering to their safety plan..
9. Have the ability to mentor and train Inspector I’s.
Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications is essential in order to locate and prevent potential problems.
2. Must have knowledge and ability to read and understand Right -of-Way and Easement Drawings.
3. Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email.
4. Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
5. Must be able to perform mathematical calculations, scale distances from plans, and measure distances on the ground.
6. Must be able to communicate with contractors, consultants and municipal employees.
Section 4 – Education and Experience
1. Five (5) years of experience as a Construction Inspector
2. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
3. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
4. Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector through APWA is preferred
Section 5 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment
Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor activities. Outdoor activities may involve exposure to hot, cold, dusty, dirty, and/or noisy conditions. Activities may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, carrying, dragging up to 75 pounds of equipment. Equipment used includes surveyor ’s transit, level, steel tape, and camera. Work may vary depending on information requests.
