Section 1 – Position Summary
At NTMWD, the Associate Engineer is responsible for the delivery of water and wastewater projects. This role offers an early career professional an opportunity to be the project leader on water and wastewater treatment or conveyance projects typically ranging from $5M to $50M. The Associate Engineer position offers an opportunity to develop your engineering and project management skills under the guidance of Project Engineers and Engineering Program Managers. As the entry level position in the Engineering Department, you would be the future of the organization and have the opportunity for professional development that is rewarded with potential promotional opportunities based on professional achievements such as licensure and also tenure with the organization.
Section 2 – Major Responsibilities
- Perform role of project leader for design and construction of major water and wastewater projects
- Reviews design plans and specifications for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintains project records including correspondence, reports, design documents, schedule and project cost updates.
- Participates in project design review meetings and in construction progress meetings.
- Manage construction project delivery with focus on project schedule and cost control.
- Coordinates project impacts with Operations and assists with tie-ins and facility shutdowns.
- Manages completion of project including start-up, testing, and commissioning and review of final record drawings.
Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite of products including Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Prior experience or familiarity with scheduling, modeling software, and design software platforms such as Autocad preferred.
Section 4 – Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field received from an accredited college or university
- Passing score on NCEES FE exam or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Experience utilizing engineering design and project management software.
- Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Prior experience with water treatment processes is strongly preferred.
Section 5 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment
Moderate physical labor and considerable mental attention required with some eyestrain. Generally desirable conditions with some outside visits to work-sites with varying environmental conditions. Considerable time can be spent working with and viewing a computer screen. Considerable time viewing plans, specifications and reading reports and correspondence. Time will be spent at construction sites, traversing rough terrain, climbing stairs and ladders to access structures. Equipment used includes calculators, computers and some field survey equipment
