Nordfab is seeking a Materials Manager to join our team in our Thomasville, NC office. As a manufacturer of duct products for environmental filtration systems, Nordfab is proud to help supply clean air for workers and equipment in workplaces of all sizes and types. Our ducting is an integral part of dust, mist, and fume collection systems around the world.
The Materials Manager will be responsible for the activities related to the purchase of material, material planning, production planning, inventory control, and special projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Provide leadership to the team in developing & completing objectives
- Optimize material management procedures
- Development of warehouse operation processes by determining product handling and storage requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilization and inventory management
- Develops warehouse design by planning layout, product flow, and product handling systems
- Reviews the scheduling methodologies and practices and refines them for optimal production scheduling and materials processing and planning.
- Ensures inventory is accurate and accounted for to include cycle counting and auditing.
- Reviews and releases planned purchase requisitions utilizing business information systems tools (MRP and Capital purchases).
- Reviews proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
- Maintains procurement records for items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
- Manages the supply base driving continuous improvement within the supply chain.
- Periodically reviews product utilization reports of items purchased and updates safety stock levels.
- Researches cost savings opportunities and assists engineering department in product development and improvement of purchased items.

Scope of Responsibility
- This job will have periodic access to confidential data including wages and salaries, financial statements, customer/vendor quotes and product prices, company records and/or minutes, and company plans, designs, and/or programs.
- This job follows standard practices and procedures, and one is expected to accomplish work assignments with a limited amount of supervision.
- Leads and manages the Purchasing and Materials Departments.
- This job is responsible for Warehousing and Special Projects as assigned.
- This role is also responsible for identifying and acting upon business process improvement opportunities which improve departmental and, therefore, business performance.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory software and Order processing systems.
Education/Experience:
- Prefer BS Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Operations related field and/or 5+ years of experience in manufacturing with experience in production planning, working with scheduling, manage personnel requirements, application of production standards, and safety programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises employees in the Purchasing and Materials Management Departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Travel Required
- Infrequent travel for the purposes of visiting suppliers, attending training or business conferences, and meeting with counter-parts in our overseas operations will be required.
