2nd Shift Automated Machine Operator
Summary:
Plans and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications by performing the following duties.
Duties:
• Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished work piece.
• Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions, using a forklift if needed.
• Selects and adjusts roll or basket thickness.
• Manipulates controls and enters commands to index welding tool to specified set point and to start machine.
• Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged welding tools.
• Changes various machine consumables and location of work piece during machining process as specified in setup instructions.
• Measures work piece for conformance to specifications and places in appropriate storage areas.
• Adjusts machine feed and speed according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
• Cleans machine, tooling, parts and surrounding work area as needed.
• Other duties may be assigned.
Scope of Responsibility
• This job follows standard practices and procedures, and is expected to accomplish work assignments with available supervision.
Qualifications:
o Satisfactory attendance history
o Flexibility of daily routine
o Understand basic math and measuring principles including but not limited to: addition, subtraction, decimals, tape measure usage, machine calipers and micrometer in metric
o Ability to read and understand machine related terminology, standard operating procedures and communicate to support staff with job related information.
o Ability to follow multi-step directions with limited supervision
o Ability to take direction and be trained as an operator by machine technician or other operators
o Basic computer skills: navigate between windows, identify work, input quantities
• Preferred Qualifications (all of above and):
o Previous manufacturing experience, metal working and/or laser-welding/laser-cutting experience a plus
o Understanding of intermediate math: radius, diameter, conversion from lineal to radius and diameter, positive/negative measurements, decimals and metric to Imperial conversion
o Accepting of constructive criticism to grow in skill
o Ability to identify maintenance needs, support troubleshooting, and communicate issues to technicians and maintenance staff
Education/Experience:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed in a production environment where disruptions occur frequently.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Understanding of working day or night shift with occasional overtime and Saturday work
Physical Demands:
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.
