POSITION:               Communications Intern

DEPARTMENT:       Strategic Advancement & Partnerships

LOCATION:             Alexandria, VA

SEMESTER:             Summer 2025

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides administrative and clerical support for Communications projects
  • Maintains assigned office, program and event records, files and databases
  • Prepares event related correspondence and reports
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work on a project team
  • Interest in enhancing proven writing and editing skills
  • Creating communication media: presentation, posters, flyers, media pitches
  • Writing and analyzing press releases and materials for distribution and engagement  
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the organizations mission and programs and is comfortable calling reporters and media outlets
  • May include some evening activities and events and possibly weekend events

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Must have completed at least two years of college and working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications or related field
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze written materials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information

SALARY

Although internships are unpaid positions, each intern will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and hands-on experience in the position of his/her choosing and will receive academic credit through an approved program at his/her college. Interns will be reimbursed for parking or public transportation expenses.

 

HOURS

Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (with some events in the evenings and/or weekends) during Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters.
