Fleet Mechanic

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on a fleet of vehicles, including trucks, buses, and other industrial equipment. The role ensures that all vehicles gas, diesel and Electrical are maintained in a safe, efficient, and reliable condition, minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on Space Center Houston’s fleet of vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as brake checks, fluid level checks, and alignment services.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in various types of vehicles.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify problems and determine necessary repairs.
- Repair or replace faulty components, including engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and electrical systems.
- Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed on each vehicle.
- Track vehicle service history and manage scheduling for upcoming maintenance.
- Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct safety inspections and address any issues that may affect vehicle safety or performance.
- Ensure that all repairs are done in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Communicate with drivers about vehicle performance, maintenance needs, and repair statuses.
- Provide recommendations for improving vehicle performance and reliability.
- Manage and order parts and supplies needed for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area, including tools and equipment.
- Respond to roadside breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed.
- Work flexible hours to accommodate emergency situations and vehicle downtime.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or an associate degree in Diesel and Gas mechanics or a related field preferred.
- Mechanic certification such as ASE or equivalent is required.
- Three to five years’ experience as a Diesel and Gas mechanic, particularly in fleet maintenance or a similar role.
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills, with experience in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to communication professionally to drivers about vehicle status and operational issues.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and pass a drug screening test.
- Ability to read gauges and instructions.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing, lifting heavy parts, bending and working in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
