Summary
Services as a liaison and provides vital communications between public and local law enforcement to ensure safety of citizens and police officers. Must have availability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates in conformance with federal, state, and local laws, and department and city policies and procedures
  • Serves as front desk by greeting customers, answering the telephone, directing public to proper law enforcement officials
  • Works in fast-paced environment dealing with life-threatening situations 
  • Maintains composure to respond effectively and accurately in stressful situations
  • Responds to any emergencies encountered in the front lobby as needed 
  • Receives, logs, and maintains complaints and requests from citizens concerning non-emergency/emergency requests for Police assistance and enters into Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
  • Receives incoming emergency/non-emergency calls and routes calls accordingly
  • Searches for and retrieves data from CAD, and Police records management system, National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and distributes data/reports to authorized personnel
  • Notarizes statements and complaints
  • Processes monetary transactions and issue receipts
  • Serves as a back-up with monitoring holding cells and Police Department entry ways by live video recording
  • Records impounded vehicles and vehicle inventory
  • Collects found property from community members and submit to the Evidence Unit
  • Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of experience in public safety communications field or related area
  • Ability to successfully pass a typing test with a minimum of 40 WPM
  • Pass extensive criminal background check and polygraph exam and evaluation

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in law enforcement office
  • Familiar with law enforcement terminology
  • Experience in dispatching and radio communications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • TCOLE Telecommunications Officer (preferred)
