SUMMARY:
Under direction of branch Operations Manager directs and coordinates activities of transportation operations to obtain optimum use of equipment, personnel, and maintain records in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Transportation by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews results of productivity and returns reports and compares them to established objectives, and takes steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results including providing training and taking disciplinary action.
  • Visits customers to audit driver performance.
  • Communicates with Union regarding performance issues and disciplinary action.
  • Security of facility after daily business hours.
  • Oversees sanitation, equipment, truck loading, and deliveries.
  • Road tests all new drivers and recommends additional training as needed.
  • Manages and audits driver documentation and maintains files in accordance with the rules and regulations of the DOT.
  • Trains drivers on company best practices and policies
  • Uses computer to enter records.
  • Follows up on ALL customer requests and questions to ensure appropriate response is made and customer is satisfied.
  • Treats all customers (both internal and external) with respect, courtesy and kindness.
  • Upholds and complies with policies and attitudes adopted by the company.
  • Accepts responsibility to think about how own actions and actions of associates effect customers and the company.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and safety rules as stated in the Employee Handbook and otherwise posted or communicated.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet company goals.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interviews candidates, makes selection in concert with other Supervisors in the Transportation dept. Assigns duties to Transportation personnel via written and oral instructions.
  • Prepares work schedules and expedites workflow.
  • Examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures. Applies disciplinary action as needed.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Two year college degree or technical school; two to four years related supervisory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Class ‘A’ Driver’s License a plus, but not required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Compensation:
The starting salary for this position is $60,000 per year, with final compensation based on experience and qualifications.
