Job Title: Certified Scrub Technician
Status: Full Time
Hours: Variable
Reports to: Team Leader/ Surgicenter Director
Purpose of Job: Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited surgical technology program or an accredited school of nursing with a Tennessee nursing license
- Basic Life Support certification required
- Previous experience in an OR setting (1 year minimum) recommended
- Must be in overall good health with satisfactory hearing and eyesight; must be able to bend reach, and lift 50 lbs. using good body mechanics
- Knowledge of OSHA guidelines preferred
- Must be able to work forty (40) hours per week and overtime as deemed necessary by the supervisor
- Must be self-motivated, professional and maintain a positive attitude
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Follows established protocols to maintain a clean, safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
- Demonstrates current competencies applicable to the position.
- Organizes and prioritizes tasks efficiently.
5. Functions as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by
a. assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure;
b. preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure;
c. performing accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator;
d. assisting with placement of sterile drapes;
e. providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure;
f. maintaining an organized sterile field;
g. ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed; and
h. preparing sterile dressings.
3. Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
4. Assists with post-procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
5. Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
6. Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
7. Prioritizes tasks by importance and demand.
8. Follows employee handbook guidelines in regards to sick time, vacation, and dress code.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Primarily operating room setting. Frequent contact with diverse individuals.
- Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment.
- Variety of standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, twisting.
- Must be able to stand 6-8 hours/day.
- Hand and eye coordination.
- Manual and finger dexterity.
- Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
- Pushing and pulling heavy objects.
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
