Intern – Violent Crimes

Hourly Pay Rate $13.23 to $20.25

Job Summary:  The intern will function under the supervision of the Chief Deputy District Attorney, Chief Investigator, Director of Victim/Witness services, and Prosecutors to provide litigation support to Assistant District Attorneys, Investigators, and Victim/Witness Advocates.

 

Job Duties: 

  • Listen to, transcribe, and summarize jail calls and recorded statements of defendants. Compile, organize and summarize case files. Research criminal histories of defendants and prepare charts, diagrams, and other exhibits for court presentation.
  • Assist victim/witness advocates in preparing crime victims and witnesses for trial, providing crime victims and witnesses their rights accorded to them in chapter 950 of the Wisconsin Statutes.
  • Under the supervision of assistant district attorneys, review police reports and prepare criminal complaints. Compile, organize and summarize case files, providing discovery to defense attorney. Conduct legal research, write briefs and motions.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current resident of the state of Wisconsin at time of application
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Personal computer
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets. (Microsoft Word and Excel)

 

Please Note: This position is not eligible for telework due to the hands-on nature of the assignment.

 

 

Required Skills and Abilities: The ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to 20 LBS. Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Write routine reports, correspondence, and speak effectively before both internal and external groups. Establish, organize and maintain files, document management and data base searches. Work effectively and harmoniously with Internal and external groups.
