Carpenter

Department of Administrative Services – Facilities

Hourly Range: $38.88

 

Summary: Perform journey-level work in the construction, repair and maintenance of building, site and all related physical assets as required.  

 

        

Job Responsibilities

  • Rough and finish carpentry: Perform rough and finish carpentry tasks related to remodeling and new construction projects. Create & install signage as required. Furniture and cabinet making & repair. Cubicle assembly and modifications. Installation & repair of door hardware and locking devices.
  • Perform Work Orders: Complete assigned work/work orders as directed. Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis. Complete reactive work orders as necessary. Complete preventative maintenance work orders. Document work via electronic work order system (currently City Works).
  • Carpenter Shop Duties: Maintain inventory of commonly used materials and equipment.  Perform maintenance on shop equipment.
  • Administrative Duties: Completes requisitions for the purchase of tools and materials. Completes required/assigned training. Maintain project records such as as-builts, specification manuals, other technical information, and communicate changes to the Engineering Department. Complete time recording for hours worked. Respond to e-mail correspondence.
  • Participate in Contracted Projects: Project Planning and Review: Attend operation/capital projects meetings.  Offer recommendations regarding departmental assets. Support contracted T&M projects and/or staff as necessary.
  • Interdepartmental cooperation/coordination: Collaborate with other departments to support the overall needs of County facilities.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform supportive and generalized duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current residency in the State of Wisconsin required.
  • A valid State of Wisconsin Driver’s License at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • At least Five (5) year or more of work experience as a Journeyman Carpenter.
  • Applicants must successfully undergo a criminal history background check to establish security clearance for Milwaukee County facilities and maintain this clearance throughout employment.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities required:

  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets and Email, Work Order System.

 

License: MUST HAVE

  • State or Federal Carpenter Apprenticeship completion certificate

 

Equipment, tools, or materials used to perform the job:

  • Van or pick-up truck, Fork Truck, Shop, and hand tools of the Carpenter trade such as hammers, drills, saws, etc., Step and extension.

 

Personal Protective Equipment used:

  • Safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, proper footwear, hearing protection, respirator.
