Laundry Plant Operator

Department: Community Reintegration Center

Full-time, Hourly

Hourly Range: $20.87 - $23.34/hr

 

Job Summary

Assess and assign workloads; and develop and supervise resident workers. Control/prioritize flow of textiles. Evaluate used textiles for regulatory compliance (e.g., mending, reuse or recycling). Ensure deadlines and customer quality expectations are consistently upheld.

 

Work Schedule: Applicants must have reliable transportation to/from work as there is no public transportation available at shift start/end times. Work hours are from 3am-11am, Monday-Friday with occasional overtime. No weekends!

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Prioritize workloads, assess resources, supervise and control the flow of goods. Prioritize loads based on available machinery, workers, labor intensity, and deadlines. Anticipate institutional realties and bottlenecks in advance. Pace, redirect and keep workers focused and productive.
  • Orientate, develop and assess the capabilities of resident labor. Present orientation and relevance of regulatory obligations. Evaluate skills, aptitude, ability to follow instructions and assign accordingly. Maintain safety, production and a harmonious work environment.
  • Expedite Laundry - Lead workers to unroll/fold, screen refuse/rejects, sort, weigh, stage, load, wash, transfer, dry, steam, fold, hang, stack, size, count, roll, cover, tag, load and deliver textiles. Provide labor primarily to pace and in absence of workers or critical skills.
  • Maintain a safe and regulatory compliant workplace. Ensure workers follow all label instructions when using disinfectant. Lift, handle, and transport goods safely. Have functional/compliant footwear, functional/compliant PPE/bags, and document surface and vessel sanitation. Uphold handwashing, barrier/PPE use and good hygiene.
  • Gather/record production data and draft reports. Tabulate soiled, clean, rewash weights, water condition and fabric safety tests. Draft resident conduct/injury reports, maintenance work, supply, and forms requisitions.
  • Customer Service - Exercise professional phone etiquette and maintain contact with internal and external users. Adjust quotas and preferences as requested by customers. Ensure follow through on special requests, infrequent users, errors, shortages, and complaints. Correct and credit records.
  • Provide Security Related Support - Conduct counts, escorts for deliveries, and tour ancillary/obstructed areas. Remain alert and act on suspicious resident activity or gatherings. Carry and use a radio appropriately and remain aware of other institutional activity or radio silence.
  • Interact with Information Technology - Read and respond to email daily. Initiate timely work orders facility wide. Complete LMS/compliance modules. Monitor and select machinery programs.  Troubleshoot/reset system faults on machinery and dispensing controls. Basic word processing and spreadsheet use.
  • Provide Other Institutional Support Functions - Lead secondary, screen used textiles for repair, mending/sewing as needed. Cart inspection/lubrication/hardware adjustments, and mat rotation/exchanges in the lobby. Aprons and other repairable goods are sewn by laundry staff and will be expected to exchange chemical barrels. Provide mattresses to dorms if needed.
  • Ability to operate properly or safely: Industrial washers, dryers, ironers and other finishing equipment, pallet jacks/stackers, chemical testers, and computers.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 700 lbs.; carry and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education, License/Certification and Experience

  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required upon application and must be maintained throughout employment
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
  • Basic knowledge of all job-related computer and software applications required

 

Preferred Experiences

  • Previous work experience in processing, storing, or distributing textiles or supplies preferred
  • Previous work experience in a Lead, Supervisory or Management role preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Previous experience using sewing machines preferred
