Community Outreach Coordinator
Behavioral Health Services (BHS)
Hourly Pay Range: $27.78 - $41.91
Job Summary: This position will work to strengthen the partnership between the 988 Wisconsin Suicide & Crisis Lifeline call center and Milwaukee Mobile Crisis (MMC). This position will also create a process to ensure high-acuity 988 callers who need local support are provided with resources and follow up. This position will also complete outreach services that educate staff and the community crisis partners on 988 and local behavioral health resources. Lastly, this position will be the Project Director for the 988 Improvement Grant.
Note: The successful candidate for this position will be working remotely, 60-80% of the time.
Job Duties:
- Grant Project Director - Responsible for project management of grant and oversight of grant requirements (i.e. fiscal goals, grant objectives, outcome measurements, grant reporting, etc.). Represent Milwaukee County in all state 988 grant meetings and forums. Coordinate University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) & Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) trainings.
- Collaborate and coordinate with 988 Wisconsin Lifeline - Strengthen the partnership between the 988 Wisconsin Suicide & Crisis Lifeline call center and Milwaukee Mobile Crisis (MMC) through regular meetings, identifying and implementing system improvements, joint trainings, and presentations, etc.
- Improve Referral Processes - Create a process to ensure high-acuity 988 callers who need local support are provided with resources and follow up. Develop a process map to include inputs, outputs, and steps in the transfer and referral processes to MMC and other DHHS- BHS services.
- Community Outreach & Education - Provide information about 988 and BHS services to community partners and internal partners. Participate on committees for the specific purpose of outreach and identifying opportunities to collaborate as well as disburse 988 and BHS program information in the community.
- Policies & Procedures - Develop any and all policies and procedures identified as being required to make collaboration improvements. Develop policies in partnership with 988 leadership to support data sharing with 988 Lifeline that meet HIPAA standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current resident of the State of Wisconsin at the time of application
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with access to an insured and reliable vehicle; both maintained throughout employment required.
- Associate degree or higher in Social Services, Human Services, Education, or in a closely related field is required.
- At least one (1) or more years of practical paid work experience providing customer Service in a professional setting and/or facilitating meetings is required.
- Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Education or in a closely related field is preferred
- Previous experience working with budget preferred.
Note: THIS POSITION IS A LIMITED TERM POSITION WITH EMPLOYMENT ENDING 9/30/25, IF ADDITIONAL FUNDING IS NOT SECURED
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate organizational and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate would need to also be proactive in seeking out outreach opportunities and have strong oral and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will also need to demonstrate the ability to work with diverse individuals.
