NYCPA - Director, Strategic Planning and Division Operation

Position Summary
This position is responsible for: 

  • putting together the overall strategy and business plan for the division under the direction of the DOO/SVP and
  • collaborating with the Dept. GMs to promote integrated management of the division and further strengthen collaboration between the Food and Retail business areas.
  • supporting the effective operation of the Food Business Department (NYCPA), working with the GM and members of the department.

The incumbent will have frequent close and detailed discussions with the department GMs within the division, other senior level division personnel, other department staff members, and other relevant business departments in Mitsui.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze information on the external environment that may impact our existing business and identify trends and changes in the food and retail business areas in order to adopt them.
  • Identify variances and causes from the business plan and analyze the performance of existing businesses and affiliated companies in collaboration with relevant departments in order to take measures to achieve the business plan.
  • Collaborate closely with relevant personnel in the Food Business Unit and Retail Business Unit at headquarters to develop Food and Retail Division’s strategies and business plans in line with the strategies of both business units.
  • Collaborate with the GM and members of the Food Business Dept (NYCPA) and the secondees of each Affiliate, implement the necessary procedures in line with internal rules and regulations and assist in the smooth management of the Affiliates.
  • Work closely with GMs and secondees to pursue synergies between Group assets and support the business growth of Group companies.
  • Prepares periodical reports on financials, operations and other company data of the Mitsui Group in accordance with Mitsui USA’s internal rules.
  • Mentors, motivates, and inspires the members of the Foods & Retail Division.
  • Shares up-to-date knowledge/information of the US Food and Retail industry with global members of the Mitsui Group.
  • Participates in additional projects as assigned by DOO/SVP, GM or other senior level division personnel.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years experience in Food/Retail businesses.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field is required.
  • Expert knowledge in new business development, business investment projects, affiliate management support and strategic planning of large organizations.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze industry trends and market data as well as the ability to analyze business plans and financial statements.
  • Must have strong inter-personal skills to effectively work across multiple corporate functions.
  • Should have strong interpersonal communication skills to develop trust in relationships not only within Mitsui and the group companies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) for creating and analyzing business documents, data and presentations.
  • Ability to understand and navigate various stakeholder interests; team player with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Strong logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and willing to wear multiple hats.   
  • Interested to grow career within Mitsui or Mitsui owned businesses.
  • Able to understand and adapt to Mitsui’s business culture.  Ability to adapt to a cross-cultural environment.
